Dominican Charges Past Men’s Basketball 64-47

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Post men's basketball team dropped its second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) decision on Wednesday night. The Eagles fell 64-47 to the Dominican Chargers on the road. Senior Josh Lopez (Anchorage, Alaska) led Post with 11 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field.
 
Leon Porter of Dominican finished the contest with a game-high 40 points on 15-for-29 shooting. He went 8-for-12 from beyond the arc.
 
Dominican scored 14 of the first 18 points of the night to vault itself out to an 8-2 advantage with 14:59 to play. The stretch capped on a Porter triple, one of five in the stanza. Porter scored 21 points in the first period. The Chargers' lead grew to as many as 12, 20-8, with 10:09 to play in the half.
 
The Eagles responded with a 10-0 run over a span of 3:30 to cut their deficit to two points, 20-18, with 5:44 to play in the opening stanza. Junior Sarunas Jackson (Corona, Calif.) scored six of his eight first half points during the run, while senior Lopez added four points during the spurt. Jackson finished with a game-high 12 boards.
 
Post (8-13, 6-6 CACC) got as close as one, 25-24, on a Lopez jumper with 4:37 to go. However, Dominican scored six of the half's final eight points to take a 31-26 lead into the locker room.
 
The Eagles opened the second half on an 8-2 run, over the first 5:31, to take their only lead of the night. A Jerry Cummings (La Plata, Md.) field goal gave Post a 35-33 lead with 14:29 remaining in the game. However, Dominican (12-7, 5-6 CACC) scored the next seven points to regain a five-point advantage.
 
The Chargers used a 14-4 run to put the game out of reach and grow the lead to 14 points, 58-44, with 4:11 to play.
 
In the game, the Eagles shot 33 percent (17-for-51) from the field, and the Chargers shot 44 percent (24-for-55). Dominican held a slight edge on the glass, 35-34.
 
Post returns to the Drubner Center on Tuesday, Feb. 7, when it hosts Concordia in a CACC North matchup. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
