– After it trailed 29-26 in overtime, freshman Shawn Boose (San Diego, Calif.) rushed for a five-yard touchdown to give the Post University sprint football team a 32-29 victory at Princeton in a Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) contest on Friday night. Sophomore quarterback Dwayne Carter (Anchorage, Alaska) accounted for two total touchdowns, including a 27-yard pass to freshman Jay'Len Mahan (Waterbury, Conn.).

“We played this game to honor the life of Robert Roman and the adversity the Post University community faced this week,” head coach Michael Mannetti said. “I was pleased with the balance from our offense and the way we sustained drives tonight. We give credit to Princeton for a tremendous effort.”

Defensively, Post (1-2, 1-2 CSFL) totaled a season-high four sacks and 11.0 tackles for loss. Junior Christopher Lopez (Waterbury, Conn.), senior Kyle Lagasse (Waterbury, Conn.), and freshmen Jordan Anderson (Colton, Calif.) and Anthony Jamele (Terryville, Conn.) all recorded sacks, which accounted for a loss of 34 yards for the Princeton offense. The Eagles offense was paced by three rushing touchdowns by freshman Quinton Bryant (Atlanta, Ga.), Boose and Carter. Bryant led the ground attack with 89 yards on 19 carries. Carter threw for 137 yards and notched seven completions.

After the Eagles' defense stopped the Tigers on four consecutive plays on Princeton's opening drive, Post took over on the Princeton 25 yard line. Carter scored on a 12-yard rush to give Post a 7-0 lead for the third consecutive week. Post took a 12-0 lead at the end of the first quarter when Boose connected with freshman Robert Williams (Waterbury, Conn.) on a 52-yard touchdown pass.

Following a Princeton (0-4, 0-4 CSFL) safety and field goal to make the score 12-5, Post seized an 18-5 lead at halftime when Mahan scored on a 22-yard pass from Carter. The drive started on the Eagles' 17 yard line. Mahan caught a 44-yard pass to open the possession. On the possession he tallied 66 of his 79 yards in the contest.

The Eagles took their largest lead of the game, a 14-point margin, on the team's first possession of the second half. After the drive started on the Princeton 33 yard line, Bryant scored on a one-yard plunge to give Post a 26-12 advantage with 7:16 to play in the third stanza.

Princeton scored consecutive touchdowns and a two-point conversion to tie the game at 26-26 with 10:45 to play in the fourth quarter. However, Post got the better of Princeton in overtime to give the Eagles their first win of the season.

As a team, Post turned in season-highs in total offense (406 yards) and rushing (177 yards). Defensively, the Eagles notched three interceptions, and a blocked kick for the second straight contest.

With the win, Post moved to 3-0 all-time against Princeton and is 2-0 at Princeton Stadium. It marked the first victory in Mannetti's head coaching career, and it was the program's first road win since Sept. 23, 2011.  The triumph also snapped a four-game losing streak that spanned back to Oct. 21, 2011. It was also the first overtime game in program history.

Post will take on Mansfield on Saturday, Oct. 13, on the road. The Eagles and Mounties are set for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
