WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team was defeated on Saturday afternoon by Philadelphia, 86-75, at the Drubner Center. The Eagles now stand at 4-10 overall and 2-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
A balanced offense, four Eagles finished in double-digits, led by Geraldo Fernandez (Monticello, N.Y.) with 17 points. Saurnas Jackson (Corona, Calif.), Jerry Cummings, and Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) added 14, 13, and 13 points respectively. Josh Lopez (Anchorage, Alaska) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Post received a lot of production from its bench, outscoring the Rams 19-6.
Philadelphia (9-4, 5-0 CACC) used a 9-2 run early in the first half to take a 13-6 lead with 12:10 remaining. Post chipped away, and cut the deficit to 14-10 on a Jose Araujo layup at the 10:34 mark. The Rams extended their lead to 14 points and led 37-24t halftime .
Jackson led the offense for Post with eight points in the half. Lopez grabbed five boards.
Post shot 55.9 percent in the second half. The Eagles cut the lead down to single digits with on a Lopez layup with 5:15 remaining in the game. Philadelphia responded quickly as guard Jim Connolly, who finished with a game-high 35 points, nailed a three-pointer on the next possession to put the Rams ahead 68-57. The Eagles continued to fight, but fell 86-75.
Post turned in 14 second chance points on 12 offensive rebounds. The Eagles tallied 30 points in the paint.
Post will play its next four contests on the road, starting at Nyack Thursday, Jan. 12. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
