Late Push Leads Dowling Over Eagles, 63-57

DOMINICAN, NY (January 3, 2012) Post University men's basketball fell to Dowling College on Tuesday night in the third game of the Sixth Annual James Clancy Memorial Tournament.

Josh Lopez got things started early for the Eagles, hitting two threes as the Eagles went ahead 11-5 five minutes into the game. Dowling answered back, going on a 14-8 run over the next ten minutes to tie the score at 19 apiece. A jumper by the Golden Knight's John Merchant put them ahead 33-31 at the half.

Lopez would start the second half with another three to give Post the early 34-33 lead. The Eagles turned the ball over on their next two possessions which would help Dowling go back ahead 42-37.

Every time the Eagles fell behind they would answer back from long distance. Two quick three-pointers by the previous night's hero, Zach Krischer, tied the game 53-53 with 3:18 remaining. Merchant made a layup off a Krischer turnover to put Dowling ahead for good at 55-53 with 2:21 left. The Eagles had a few more chance but could not convert as the Golden Knights took the 63-57 victory.

Post went 10-for-23 from behind the arc, led by Krischer with four and Lopez with three. Lopez led the Eagles with 15 points. The Eagles had very good production off their bench as they accounted for 30 of the 57 points, led by Krischer with 14. Post was outrebounded 37-30.

The Eagles return to action on Thursday night against Dominican in the second game of a men's and women's doubleheader at Drubner.
