WATERBURY, Conn. (February 26, 2011)—Post University defeated the University of the Sciences, 50-47, in a Senior Day-thriller at the Drubner Center.
Geraldo Fernandez came up big again, draining a huge three-pointer with 34 seconds to go, giving the Eagles a 48-44 lead.
Two clutch free throws from
Garvin McAlister extended the lead to 50-44. USP's Tyrone Mann-Barnes hit a three-pointer with 0.3 seconds remaining to make it a three-point difference.
Post University's staunch defense bottled up yet another opponent, holding USP to just 30 percent shooting from the field and forcing 21 turnovers. They also held the Devils to just 2 of 10 shooting from three-point range.
The Eagles (16-10, 14-4 CACC) trailed for almost the entire first half, falling behind 11-3. They took their first lead of the game at 30-29 with 30 seconds remaining in the first half on a
Josh Lopez steal and layup.
James Lee punctuated the comeback with a thunderous, one-handed throwdown that posterized about three USP players and sent the crowd into a frenzy with just seconds left in the first half.
Lee finished with 10 points on perfect shooting (5-for-5) from the floor.
USP (12-12, 7-10 CACC) was led by forward Myer Messinger, who scored 15 points.
Prior to the start of the game, Post University seniors

Rishawn Johnson were each presented with specially-made basketballs that will be marked with their career statistics after the season.
The Eagles are flying high heading into the CACC Tournament, having won seven straight and eight out of thier last nine.
The team will host Dominican College in the tournament's opening round on Tuesday, March 1 at 7 pm inside the Drubner Center.
