WATERBURY, Conn (February 22, 2011) Post University's men's and women's basketball teams will host Caldwell College Wednesday night at the Drubner Center. The women play at 6pm and the men will follow at 8pm.
Women's Basketball
Post University's women's basketball team (8-16, 6-11 CACC) hosts the Caldwell Cougars (18-5, 14-3 CACC) Wednesday. The Eagles are coming off a road loss to Philadelphia on Saturday 84-54. Caldwell won the last time out 86-54 over Wilmington and is ranked second in the CACC North.
Eagle freshman guard
Colleen Hanscom had a consistent week scoring eight points in two games last week. This season she has three eight point games and has scored nine points three times as well.
Caldwell sophomore Torey Jones was named CACC Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Last week she averaged 25.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in a 3-0 week. This season Jones has averaged 17.3 points per game.
Playoff Picture:
For Post University to make the playoffs, the Eagles must win the final two games of the season. A loss in either game would seal their fate. In addition, Dominican must lose both of their final two regular season games for the Eagles to see the CACC tournament.
Senior Day:
Saturday's game against USP will be senior day for the Eagles as Mallorie Michalak, Liz Johnson, and Lisa Solazzo take to the Drubner Center hardwood for the final time. Game time is set for 1pm.
Men's Basketball
The Eagles (14-10, 12-4 CACC) will also host the Caldwell Cougars (9-15, 6-10 CACC) Wednesday at the Drubner Center. Both teams are coming off victories last time out as the Eagles took down Philadelphia 69-44 on the road and Caldwell topped Wilmington 70-66 at home. Post University is riding a five game win streak with two games remaining on the schedule. Saturday's game against USP will be senior day.
Post University senior guard
Garvin McAlister has been named this week's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week after averaging 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in a 3-0 week. It is the first time in his career he has earned the honor.
Caldwell, ranked sixth in the CACC North, has struggled to find consistency this season. Their longest win streak came early in the season and lasted three games. The Cougars rely on sophomore guard Nik Otovic from Serbia to spark the offense. Otovic averages 12.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and just under two assists per contest.
The last time the Eagles played Caldwell, was on January 27 with the Eagles taking a 69-58 victory. Dating back to the 2005-2006 season the Eagles are 6-5 against the Cougars.
Post Season Picture:
With two games remaining, Post University cannot fall any lower than second in the CACC North standings, which would allow them to host a first round play-off game next Tuesday March 1 at 7pm. Most likely the Eagles will host Dominican in the first round game.
