WATERBURY, Conn (February 17, 2011) Post University basketball hosts a conference two-step tonight at the Drubner Center in Waterbury. Check out game notes for tonight's contest and preview the game as the Eagles prepare to host Dominican.
Women's Basketball:
Tonight Post University (7-15, 5-10 CACC) hosts the Dominican Chargers (8-14, 6-9 CACC) in what is a must win situation for both teams to keep their playoff hopes alive. These teams met earlier in the season on December 1 at Dominican with the Chargers taking a 67-53 victory.
The Eagles lost to top ranked Bloomfield on Tuesday night at home 81-65. Post University went on a 16-3 run on the Deacons late in the first half cutting the lead to only six at the break. Senior Liz Johnson led the effort with 14 points.
Dominican played last on Saturday at home against Chestnut Hill earning a 70-55 victory. The Chargers lean on 5-5 sophomore guard Lindsey Lopez with 11.3 points and 1.7 steals.
Post Season Picture:
Dominican is currently fourth and the Eagles are fifth in the CACC North with only the top four earning a playoff berth. A Post University win tonight would tie the two teams in the standings and the head to head record this season would be 1-1. The tie breaker would fall to which team was best against top ranked Bloomfield, but because both teams lost again the Deacons the tie-breaker falls to third ranked Caldwell. Dominican has lost to Caldwell twice this season, so if the Eagles can win tonight and defeat Caldwell in the Drubner Center on Wednesday they could see the post-season.
Men's Basketball:
The Eagles (12-10, 10-4 CACC) men;s team also hosts the Dominican College Chargers (14-11, 10-5 CACC) tonight. The Eagles are hot off a tightly contest battle against top ranked Bloomfield Tuesday night taking an 86-72 victory. Both Garvin McAlister and Geraldo Fernandez tallied 16 points in the victory. Five Eagles scored in double figures.
The Eagles come into tonight's game after playing a challenging schedule dating back to last week. It was games against Nyack and Holy Family last week, before hosting Bloomfield Tuesday night. Dominican is in town tonight and it is a road trip to Philadelphia on Saturday. In short, three games against the top competition in the CACC with only two days preparation for each opponent. On the other side of the coin, Dominican has not played since Saturday in a 63-62 home loss to Chestnut Hill so they should be well rested tonight.
Dominican is led in scoring by 5-6 sophomore guard Leon Porter who averages 14.4 points per contest and 4.3 rebounds. Porter was a 3rd team all conference player last season as a freshman.
Post defeated Dominican on the road December 1, 69-60. Tonight's winner will move into second place in the CACC North standings.
