WATERBURY, Conn. (December 3, 2011) The Post University men's basketball team found the win column for the first time this season as they defeated Felician on Saturday afternoon. The victory puts them at 1-5 overall and 1-0 in CACC contests. Felician drops to 0-6 (0-2).
The first half was back and forth for the first 10 minutes as each team led four times and there were also four ties. After a good layup on a fast break by Jake Wilcox at 9:43, the Eagles pulled ahead 21-20 and would never trail again. They pushed the lead to seven at 27-20 after James Lee dunked it home after a Felician turnover and made the ensuing free throw. Another basket off a turnover put the Eagles ahead 31-22 with 5:49 remaining in the half. Felician would battle back to cut it to 37-36 at the break.
Post stormed out of the locker room and forced Felician to use a timeout at 19:12 after two quick baskets stretched it to 41-36. They did not take their foot off the pedal and broke the game open at 56-42 with 12:32 remaining after a Josh Lopez jumper. Three straight shots from distance and misses by the Eagles helped Felician climb back in over the next three minutes and cut the lead to just one at 56-55.
The Eagles didn't lose focus and stuck with the full-court press to create more turnovers and built the lead back up to the 83-71 final score.
Josh Lopez led Post with 22 points on the night. He also added five rebounds and three steals. Reggie Holding Jr. came up huge on the glass with 12 rebounds to go with his 19 points. Jake Wilcox dished out eight assists. Felician was led by their big man John Tello with 30 points.
Post had their best shooting performance of the year making 48.5% of their attempts, but the big story was the defense. Twice the Eagles forced 10-second violations and they made Felician turn the ball over 26 times on the day. The turnovers led to 27 points for the Eagles.
The Eagles will be looking for their second win as they travel to Bloomfield on Thursday
