PHILADELPHIA, PA (October 7, 2011) Despite 35 second half points,  the Eagles fell short of defeating the University of Pennsylvania Friday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia 48-35. Eagle quarterback Dwayne Carter threw for 306 yards, had 57 yards rushing, and scored one touchdown in the game.

Carter went 19-for-33 with two interceptions.

The Eagles comeback started only 1:41 into the third quarter when Carter completed a 60 yard drive with a 26 yard pass touchdown pass to Dan Awwad making it 35-6. Francisco Sastre would connect on the extra point every time the Eagles scored.

The Eagles squibbed the ball throughout the second half to shorten the field, yet were unable to cause a turnover.
Penn responded with 3:46 to play in the third with a nine yard pass from Todd Busler to Matt Wetherell for the score making it 42-7.

On the next Penn drive, Jaleel Dickerson picked off a pass by Keith Braccia and ran up the left sideline for the score on the 18 yards run.

Post entered the fourth quarter down 42-14 at the Eagle 18 and scored on the first drive. Carter had six completions and rushed for 31 yards on the drive as it took Post 12 plays to get into the end zone.

Penn responded quickly scoring on the back of Mike Beamish who rushed for the entire 40 yard drive making it 48-21 Quakers.

Seven plays later it was Carter connecting with Lahquan Leggette for a 26 yard touchdown pass cutting the Quaker lead to 48-28.

The Eagle defense held Penn to only 14 yards on five plays on the next drive putting the ball back in the hands of Carter. He found Rashaun Reid for a 65 yard touchdown pass to make it 48-35.

Reid would catch for 99 yards on the game, Leggette had 65, Tony Simpson added 61, and Jason Carlino had 42 yards of offense.

“It is plain and simple; our effort in the second half was fantastic, but we can't play 30 minutes of football. We need to play 60 minutes,” said Pete Ewald, Eagles head coach.

The first half was a struggle for the Eagles as field position was at a premium. On the opening kick-off Dan Awwad topped the ball and was only able to kick for 13 yards on the play. The Eagle defense held the Quakers to 21 yards on the drive before getting the ball back on their own 22.

On the first offensive drive of the contest for the Eagles it was four and out. Penn would score on the next sequence after making three first downs before Todd Busler found Andrew Donald in the back right corner of the end zone for the score.

Penn would go on to score 35 first half points. The Eagles field position struggles were compounded by 17 penalties for 118 yards in the game.

Penn had 404 yards of offense compared to the Eagles 430.

The Eagles return to competition next Friday October 14 for their only home game of the season against Princeton. Game is slated for 3pm at Municipal Stadium.
