DOMINICAN, NY (October 29, 2011) Post University's women's soccer team tied Dominican 2-2 Saturday afternoon. With the tie the Eagles season is now waits in the balance based on the outcome of the Felician and Nyack game. That game will be played on Sunday night at 7pm.
“The team played their best half of soccer in the first half game going up 2-0,” said
Matt Micros, Eagles Head Coach. “With the snow falling in the second half the field conditions were unplayable and Dominican was able to capitalize on the poor conditions. It was an unfortunate situation. We would have liked to take the win and control our own destiny.”
Felician is the stronger of the two teams and a Golden Falcon win or tie would put the Eagles in as the No. 8 seed. A tie would give Nyack and Post both 19 points, but based on a 4-0 Eagle victory earlier in the season over Nyack the tiebreaker favors Post.
In today's game,
Sabrina Sinopoli scored the first goal if the game just 12:24 into the contest.
Elin Nyman scored her 14th goal of the season at 27:06 making it 2-0 Eagles in the first half. Both goals were unassisted.
Dominican came back in the second half to score just over ten minutes in when Amanda Murray scored from Jamilyn Snyder. Then late in the game Lisa Friscia scored an unassisted goal to tie the game.
The game was called 1:55 early due to the weather conditions of the day resulting in a 2-2 tie.
If Felician should win, Post would travel to play against Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon. It would be the first time the Eagles have made the playoffs since the 2008 season in women's soccer.
