MANSFIELD, PA (October 29, 2011) Post University Sprint Football fell to Mansfield 37-0 on a snowy October Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania. The Eagles will end their second season in the Collegiate Sprint Football League 2-4.
The game was played during a constant snow storm on a grass field in muddy conditions. The wet conditions took the passing game away from the Eagles forcing them to put the ball on the ground.
“Mansfield took it to us up front today; that is the bottom line,” said Pete Ewald, Eagles Head Coach. “Field position killed us and the weather was no excuse because both teams had to play in it. They were just better up front.”
Since
Dwayne Carter has started as the Eagle quarterback, the passing game has sparked the Eagle offense, but Saturday Carter was 9-for-24 for 72 yards and suffered nine sacks.
Offensively the Eagles were led by
Kyle Staten with 35 yards rushing while defensively
Kyle Lagasse had 13 solo tackles and recovered two fumbles.
Mansfield got on the scoreboard early when the Eagles were backed up to their own ten yard line forcing
Michael Figueroa to punt. The punt was blocked by the Mountaineers as Robin Hood picked it up for the score putting Mansfield up 7-0.
In the first quarter, Lagasse forced a fumble and Justin Valazquez had an interception, but the Eagles were not able to turn the stops into points and trailed 7-0 heading into the second quarter.
With 10:26 to play in the second half quarterback Mike Doyle found Sean Green putting the Mountaineers up 14-0.
Later in the half with only 2:23 to play, it was Josh Harrison on a two yard rush for the score giving Mansfield a 20-0 halftime edge.
David Boyle blocked the extra point attempt.
With 1:27 to play in the third, it was Harrison again on a two yard rush making it 27-0 Mountaineers.
The Eagles continued to struggle to move the ball throughout the game and it was with 44 seconds to play in the third quarter when Carter rushed for a Post first down, their first of four in the game.
With 9:45 to play in the fourth, Harrison rushed 11 yards boosting the Mansfield lead to 34-0.
A little more than a minute later
Vincent Dellefave intercepted a Mike Maniscalco pass starting the Eagle drive on the Post 20 yard line with 8:43 to play. Post advanced to the 43 yard line before turning the ball over on downs.
Mansfield held the Eagles to 48 yards offense while racking up 241yards of their own.
