WATERBURY, Conn (October 14, 2011) The home crowd left Municipal Stadium happy as the Post University sprint football team defeated Princeton 48-0 in a rain-shortened game.  The Eagles defense was smothering in the victory, holding the Tigers to -67 yards of total offense.

The Eagles drove right down the field on their first drive of the game, but turned the ball over after they were stopped on fourth down on the Princeton 7 yard line. On the Tigers very first play from scrimmage, Kyle Lagasse intercepted the Jaison Zachariah pass and took it in for the score from 4 yards out.

Post stopped Princeton on the next drive, sacking Zachariah twice and forcing a fumble that was recovered by the offence. In the Eagles next possession, they were again stopped on fourth down in Princeton territory.

The running of Dashawn Wingate led the Eagles on their next drive as he broke for a 36-yard touchdown with 5:11 remaining in the first quarter. The ensuing extra point was blocked; one of four blocked kicks by the Princeton special teams, and Post took at 13-0 lead. After another punt by the Tigers, the Eagles closed out the quarter with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Dwayne Carter to Rashaun Reid.

The second quarter was back and forth, as neither team could get it going. The Eagles broke though with 2:11 left in a Rashawn Hendricks run from three yards out. The hold on the extra point was muffed by Carter, but he ran it in for two points to make the lead 28-0. The Eagles scored again as time expired in the first half when Carter found Tony Simpson for a score and heading into the half with a 34-0 lead.

Princeton came out in the second half with Bob Dougherty at quarterback, as Zachariah was taken out with an injury. It didn't make a difference as the Eagles still dominated on both sides of the ball. “I thought the game up front both offensively and defensively was great. We did a great job on O-line and D-line and it allowed the skill players to make plays” said head coach Pete Ewald.

The Eagles scored twice in the third both on passes from Carter, a 10-yarder to Jason Carlino and 80 yards to Daniel Awwad, to put the Eagles up 48-0. Post ran the ball for most of the fourth quarter until the game was finally called with 7:34 left, when torrential rains began to fall.

Wingate finished the game with 145 yards rushing, with 97 in the first quarter and Hendricks had 135 yards. Carter was 12-21 for 234 yards and 4 touchdowns. Awwad finished with 3 grabs for 129 yards.

Christopher Lopez led the defense with four tackles, including two sacks. The Eagles, as a team, finished with eight total sacks, four on each of the Tiger quarterbacks, who finished a combined 4-17 for 19 yards and an interception.

The game was the Eagles first and only home football game on the season and coach Ewald appreciated the enthusiasm of the fans. “The team worked hard all week. It was great to have the home crowd behind us chanting defense, defense. It was just great to have that home support.”

The Eagles will be back in action next Friday as they travel to West Point to take on Army.
