Concordia defeats men's basketball in 2OT thriller at the Drub'

Box Score

Garvin McAlister
WATERBURY, Conn. (January 19, 2011)—Concordia College defeated Post University, 109-99 Wednesday night in a hotly-contested double-overtime thriller.

The Drubner Center erupted on several occasions as the two conference rivals battled in a game that tested players' eardrums as well as their endurance. The crowd was so electric that they probably would have broken some noise ordinance if the Drub' was located in a residential area.

In other words, it was loud.

Garvin McAlister and Geraldo Fernandez each had 22 points to lead the Eagles (7-8, 5-2 CACC). McAlister also notched 7 assists and grabbed 4 rebounds.

Cecil Stinson* and Larry Smith each scored 14 points, and Rishawn Johnson added 11 for Post University.

Concordia (6-11, 5-4 CACC) was led by sophomores Brandon Whitaker and Argelix Gil, who each poured in 25 points.  Gil also recorded 16 rebounds in an impressive performance.

Lavor Morris had 22 points for the Clippers, and William Eason added 18 points and 13 rebounds.

The Clippers dominated play in the second overtime, going on a 6-0 run to put them up 96-90 to start the period.  The Eagles climbed back to within 98-94 on a nice post move by Rishawn Johnson with 1:38 to go, but never drew closer.

A layup by Clippers guard Brandon Whitaker with 46 seconds left gave Concordia a 102-96 lead, virtually sealing the game for the Clippers.

Concordia outrebounded Post University 54-38, and shot a blistering 64 percent in the two overtime periods, compared to the Eagles' 33 percent.

Post University returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Philadelphia to take on Chestnut Hill College.
