Eagles host big hoops doubleheader against Concordia on Wednesday


WATERBURY, Conn (January 18, 2011)--The Post University men's and women's basketball teams host a pair of important CACC matchups against Concordia College on Wednesday. The action begins with the women's game, which tips at 6 p.m. The men's game follows shortly thereafter.


Men's Game Preview:

Tonight, the Eagles (7-7, 5-1 CACC) look to avenge their only conference defeat as they take on the Concordia Clippers (4-11, 3-4 CACC). Concordia edged Post University 77-74 on December 7.

Senior guard Garvin McAlister is continued his impressive season with a 22 point, 7 rebound performance last week against Felician College. The 5-11 guard leads the team with 4.6 rebounds per game, and has also dished out a team-high 5.0 assists per contest. For his efforts, McAlister was named an Honorable Mention for CACC Player of the Week.

Post University has also been buoyed by the recent addition of transfer Geraldo Fernandez, who is averaging 14.5 points in three games so far for the Eagles.

Concordia is led by sophomore guard Brandon Whitaker, who is averaging 16.3 points per game. The Clippers also boast a tough frontcourt in forwards Argelix Gil and William Eason, who are each averaging double figures in points and rebounds.

Post University (5-8, 3-3 CACC) looks to return to its winning ways as they take on Concordia College (1-7, 2-12 CACC) tonight. The Eagles had won four of five before falling in a tough road test at Felician College last week.

Junior guard Kelli Reynolds has had a solid year, averaging a team-leading 14.5 points per game in conference play. Reynolds put up 18 points in the Eagles' last home game, a 73-71 win over Wilmington. She also knocked down a tough, contact-filled layup that proved to be the game-winner as the Eagles escaped a furious rally.
Concordia boasts a solid backcourt in guards Shelley Monahan and Krystina Agard, who each average 12 points per game. Forward Chanessa Blakemore has also been impressive, averaging 7.4 points and 9.8 rebounds per game for the Clippers.
