Men's Basketball Falls to Bloomfield 80-75 in CACC Tournament

BLOOMFIELD, NJ (March 1, 2010) Post University's Men's Basketball team fell to Bloomfield in the opening round of the CACC Tournament Monday night 80-75. The loss ends the Eagles season after winning six of their last eight regular season games.

Post University's Trevon Hamlet scored a game-high 24 points with 7 rebounds. Rashameel Vereen added 16 points in the effort. Bloomfield's Chris Sampson tallied 21 points adding 12 rebounds for the double double. 

Junior Spencer Smith would convert on a three point play to open scoring in the game in favor of the Eagles. Less than six minutes later, a layup from Sampson would give the Deacons a 12-7 lead. Post University would come back to tie the game in the first half with a three point bucket from Nyheem Sanders making it 14 all.

With the home crowd in full force, the Deacons continued to apply the pressure, beating the Eagles in rebounding (23-18) and feeding Sampson who scored 14 points in the first. Hamlet was nearly silenced with only 4 first half points leading to a 10 point Bloomfield advantage at the half.

With 13:05 to play in the game, Garvin McAlister hit a pair from the line, cutting the Deacon lead to only two points. It would not stay that way for long as within three minutes, the lead was back up to twelve. 

After a few more minutes ticked off the clock, the Eagles would then score 11 unanswered points beginning with a jumper from Hamlet. Sanders would connect from long range, followed by another bucket from Hamlet. On the next possession, Hamlet came up with a block dishing ahead to Vereen who hit layups on consecutive possessions. The Deacon lead was down to 63-62 with 8:16 to play.

With 1:33 left in the game, the Deacons were able to stretch the lead some more with a 76-69 edge. Hamlet would hit a pair of threes to keep the Eagles in the game, cutting the lead to two. 

After Ahmad Harris hit a free throw, Sanders missed a game tying three that was rebounded by Bloomfield's Wilson Pilarte who connected on two free throws securing an 80-75 win.
