Post University Men's Basketball Steals Last Playoff Position with win Over USP

PHILADELPHIA, PA (February 27, 2010) Post University's Men's Basketball team will play in the CACC post-season tournament after winning Saturday afternoon over USP 77-74. It is the third straight win for the Eagles as they head into the tournament with momentum on their side.
The Eagles were led by
Spencer Smith who scored 28 points while coming up with 5 steals. Freshman
Trevon Hamlet added 27 points and 7 rebounds in the win. USP only had five players for the game and Adewale Adefemi had a courageous effort with 28 points and 15 rebounds.
In the opening minutes of the game, the Devils jumped to a 9-4 advantage and held that lead until Hamlet hit a jumper making it 14-13 Eagles. Consecutive three point field goals would put USP on top once again, but before the end of the half Post University rallied to hold a 43-42 edge.
In the second half, Hamlet and Smith combined to extend the lead to five. Another long range bucket from Matt Whitworth would tie the game at 54 with just over 14 minutes to play.
With 3:22 to play in the game, Eagle
Rashamell Vereen hit a three of his own putting Post University in front 75-73. With a minute and a half in regulation
Larry Smith would make one free throw extending the lead to 3.
On the next possession Whitworth missed a three, but Adefemi was fouled making the front end of a pair from the line. When
Larry Smith pulled in the rebound for the Eagles, Mike Donnelly called timeout with 13 seconds to play.
On the inbounds play,
Spencer Smith hit a jumper sealing a 77-74 victory. With Nyack losing on the road to Philadelphia, the Eagles were able to secure a play-off spot on the last day of the regular season.
