Post University Hosts Philadelphia in Waterbury Saturday Afternoon
WATERBURY, Conn (February 19, 2010) When the Philadelphia University Men's Basketball team travels to Waterbury, Connecticut on January 20th for a basketball double header against Post University, spectators will have the opportunity to witness history.
Philadelphia University Head Coach Herb Magee has 901 career wins as a men's college basketball coach. If Magee can lead the Rams to victory over the Eagles on Saturday, he will tie Bob Knight at 902 wins which stands as the NCAA record. Magee could break the record at home as the Philadelphia has two more home games this season.
Philadelphia is the favored team coming into Saturday's game. However if history repeats itself, Magee will have to wait until next week to tie Knight's record. On January 27, 2007 the Rams came to Waterbury with hopes of seeing Magee break the record for most career wins by a Division II coach. Mike Donnelly's Eagles spoiled the celebration by taking an 83-67 win.
Post University comes into Saturday's game after winning a road contest against Dominican 81-74 on Thursday night, a team that currently sits 3rd in the CACC North Standings. The Eagles are in fifth, one spot out of playoff contention. Post University has four games remaining on the schedule meaning Saturday's game against the Rams is critical in keeping their post-season hopes alive.

Senior guard Russell Frederick is currently ranked 4th in the CACC for scoring averaging 19.2 points per game along with 4.4 rebounds. Malcolm Ingram is 5th with 16.9 points per game and is the current Player of the Week.
The Eagles have a young team lead by freshman Trevon Hamlet. Hamlet has been named CACC Rookie of the Week four times this season and is ranked 7th in conference scoring with 17.7 points per game scoring nearly 450 points as a freshman.
Last time out in the win over Dominican, Nyheem Sanders scored 22 points for the Eagles including shooting 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Philadelphia comes into the game well rested playing their last game on Tuesday night.
With a quick three guard lineup, the Eagles have three players ranked in the top ten in steals and the team has the second best scoring offense in the conference. To match that, Philadelphia is ranked first in scoring defense holding an average 59.4 points per game.
Tale of the Tape:
Saturday's game will be the first time the Eagles and the Rams have played each other this season. Over the last six meetings, Philadelphia University holds a 5-1 record over Post University dating back to the 2005-2006 season. The Eagles win came back on the aforementioned January 27, 2007.
