Stinson, McAlister help Eagles fight off Felician, 66-62

Post University won its home conference opener against Felician College, 66-62, in an intense, hard-fought battle Thursday night at the Drubner Center.

Cecil Stinson* hit a clutch three-pointer with 1:58 left that broke a 58-58 tie and gave the Eagles (4-4, 2-1) the lead for good in a game that was tight all the way to the finish.

Felician's Devon Young hit two free throws to close the Golden Falcons (1-5, 0-2 CACC) to within 63-62, with 30 seconds to go, but a clutch free throw by Marquis Grant put the Eagles up two with just 15 seconds to play.

The Golden Falcons' Anthony Green got a great look at the go-ahead three-pointer with 4 seconds left, but it was just long, and Grant corralled the rebound for Post University with 2 seconds to go.

Cecil Stinson*, who had a game-high 19 points, hit two free throws to seal the victory for the Eagles.

Stinson was on fire from three-point range in the first half, connecting on 4 of 8 attempts. He had 12 points at intermission.

Post University received another terrific performance from point guard Garvin McAlister, who scored 15 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished out 9 assists. 

Spencer Smith had 9 points for the Eagles.

Felician was led by forward Kashiff Foster, who scored 18 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Reigning conference player of the week Devon Young had 16 points, and guard Suquan Gary scored 14 points for the Golden Falcons.

The Eagles concluded the first half on a 6-0 run.

Post University returns to action Saturday, when they take on Nyack College at the Drub.
