Denzel Primus-Devonish scored on a driving layup with 47 seconds left to give Pace University a 57-56 win over Post University in the final game of the UMass-Lowell tournament on Sunday.
The Pacesetters had trailed the entire game, but used a late 11-2 run to shock the Eagles, who had led by as many as 18 points in the first half.
Keon Williams led Pace (2-0) with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jonathan Merceus had 13 points and 9 boards.
Garvin McAlister led a balanced attack for the Eagles (0-2), finishing with 11 points and 6 assists in 38 minutes. Nine different players scored for Post University.
After Primus-Devonish hit the layup that put the Pacesetters up 57-56, Post University held the ball for much of the shot clock, before McAlister missed a three pointer with nine seconds left.
Keon Williams controlled the rebound for Pace, but evaded defenders before finally being fouled by Reggie Holding with just three seconds to play.
Williams missed both free throws, but the Eagles failed to get a would-be game winning shot attempt off.
Post University was done in by poor perimeter shooting, going just 5-for-23 from three point territory.
The Eagles led 38-24 at halftime, but Pace caught fire in the second half, shooting 48 percent and outscoring the Eagles 33-18.
The Pacesetters also dominated Post University in the paint, outscoring the Eagles 20-8.
Five Eagles, McAlister, Reginald Holding Jr., Rishawn Johnson, Cecil Stinson* and Travis Layne, scored at least 8 points, and four Post University players grabbed at least 5 rebounds.
Post University will play in its home opener on Saturday, taking on Bentley College at 1:00 at the Drubner Center.
