In August 2026, William Mraz was named the sixth head coach of women’s lacrosse at Post University.
Mraz joins the Eagles with a plethora of collegiate and international coaching experience.
Most recently, Mraz showcased his commitment to the promotion of diversity and inclusion to athletics as the head coach of women’s lacrosse at Nichols College. Under Mraz, Nichols players set a whopping 47 new program records, including their winningest season of all time. As the all-time winningest coach in Nichols Women’s Lacrosse history, he coached them to a 53-37-1 record dating back to 2019. He was also a committee member of Diversity in Nichols Athletics. Since 2017, the 1973 Fairfield University graduate has served on the advisory board for the Bridgeport Youth Sports Organization, educating and mentoring under-resourced young girls of color through the game of lacrosse.
In 2017, The College of William & Mary appointed Mraz as their assistant women’s lacrosse coach, where he was instrumental in defining both offensive and defensive strategies and served as the Director of Recruiting, ensuring talent growth throughout the program.
From 2016-2017, Mraz head coached at Maine Maritime Academy. While in Castine, Maine, his team set 33 new school records, including most wins in a season, and went to the North Atlantic Conference quarterfinals for the first time in program history. He also served as the Director of Student-Athlete Affairs Committee.
Prior to starting with the Bridgeport Youth Sports Organization, Mraz was the assistant coach for the University of Bridgeport's women’s lacrosse team from 2014-2016, during a period in which the Purple Knights saw not only the best start in program history at 8-0, but also the best overall record, finishing the season at 12-4. Offense under Mraz excelled, putting up a school record 207 goals at an average of 12.94 per game.
In addition to his Division II and III experience, Mraz coached at his Division I alma mater beginning in 1993. At Fairfield, Mraz served as the assistant coach of the men’s lacrosse team, coaching them to their first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference playoff appearance in 1996. There, he mentored Fairfield Hall of Famers, like the all-time save leader and the all-time points scorer.
On an international stage, Mraz served as the assistant coach and defensive coordinator of the Czech Republic Men's National Team from 2011-2015. During his tenure in Prague, the team finished 14th out of 38 in the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships in Denver. Mraz also served as the head coach for the Czech Republic Women's National Team from 2015-2021. His team was an automatic qualifier for the 2022 World Cup in Towson, Maryland and they were invited to participate in the World Games that year, becoming just one of eight participants. In 2019, they finished fourth in the European Cup and under the direction of Mraz, four players from the Czech team finished top ten in scoring which was the most of any country. Mraz also led the Haudenosaunee Nationals U20 team to an 11th place finish in the 2024 World Championship as their head coach.
Continuing to showcase his community-building efforts, Mraz co-founded the Fairfield Youth Lacrosse and Wakeman Boys and Girls Club where he helped grow participation from 45 players to over 800. There, he was responsible for managing travel teams, skill instruction, building game strategy, coaching, team selection, recruitment and more. In 1975, Mraz founded and served as the first head coach of the Staples High School boys' lacrosse program, the first-ever lacrosse program in Westport, Connecticut. He grew the program from 20 players in its first year to over 70 with the addition of junior varsity and freshman squads.
From 1980-1987, Mraz led Farfield College Preparatory School to the State Playoffs in five different seasons and the State Semifinals in two seasons. Between Staples and Fairfield Prep, Mraz boasts an 81-43 high school coaching record.
Mraz has been inducted into the Fairfield University Athletics Hall of Fame and their Lacrosse Hall of Fame. As a Stag, he was a member of the lacrosse and football teams and served as the captain of the lacrosse team, even leading them in scoring, earning himself Most Valuable Player honors both as a junior and a senior, the latter in which he also earned MVP of the football team.
