Deon Henry

Henry is entering his second season as the Defensive Coordinator for the Post University Eagles. Henry will also be the Defensive Line Coach. Before coming to Post, Henry coached for three seasons as an Assistant Football Coach for The College of New Jersey where he was the Defensive Backs Coach.  Henry also served as the Passing Game Coordinator at The College of New Jersey. Before The College of New Jersey, Henry spent eight seasons as an Assistant Football Coach for Rowan University where he was the Secondary Coach, Coordinator of Football Operations, and he also served as the Gunners’ and Jammers’ coach on Special Teams (Punt and Punt Return). Henry assisted in molding one of the New Jersey Athletic Conference’s top defenses while at Rowan.  Henry was responsible for recruiting Cumberland and Salem Counties in New Jersey and the Commonwealth of Virginia.  In February 2016, Henry was selected to participate in the NFL-NCAA Coaches Academy.  Additionally, in 2017 Henry was nominated and voted a finalist for the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Assistant Football Coach of the Year
 
While at Rowan, the Prof’s Secondary flourished under Henry’s guidance, especially in 2012, 2013, and 2014 when the Profs had regular season records of 7-3 (6-1 NJAC), 9-3 (6-1 NJAC), and 7-3 (6-1 NJAC) earning back-to-back NJAC Championships and earning three consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division III Playoffs. While at Rowan, Henry has helped the Rowan University Profs to a 53-30 record.
 
In 2017, Henry coached the defensive line and mentored New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) All-Conference honoree Kevin Stokes who led the conference in tackles for lost yards.  In 2016, Henry coached three New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) All-Conference honorees at defensive back, Jared Sanchez, Shaquille Lee, and Bobby Barbieri. In 2015, Henry coached four NJAC All-Conference honorees, Eddie Davis, Jared Sanchez, Bobby Barbieri, and Shaquille Lee.  In 2014, Henry coached/mentored four NJAC All-Conference honorees and one All-American honoree.  Eddie Davis and Jared Sanchez were NJAC All-Conference honorees at Cornerback while Kurt Kingett and Rashad Adams were NJAC All-Conference honorees at Safety.  That same year, Kurt Kingett was also named to the USA College Football All-American Team and the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Football Team.  In 2013, Henry coached Frank Ruopoli, who was named a 1st Team New Jersey Athletic Conference All-Conference Cornerback. Ruopoli’s 4 interceptions tied for the conference lead during the 2013 season.
In 2012, Henry coached Casey Dillon and Kurt Kingett to become New Jersey Athletic Conference All-Conference Safeties.  Henry coached the 2012, 2013, and 2014 Rowan Secondary to a total of 35 interceptions and 1 interception return for a touchdown.  In 2015, Henry coached a secondary that totaled 10 interceptions and 1 interception returned for a touchdown.  During the 2015 season, Henry assisted the Prof's Defense to a Top 20 ranking (13th) in the country in total defense and 10th in the country in interceptions.  The Profs were ranked 1st in the NJAC in total defense, scoring defense, pass defense, pass defense efficiency, interceptions, and red zone defense in 2015.
 
During the 2014 season, Henry helped lead the Rowan defense to a top twenty (18th) ranking in total defense in the NCAA (Division III) while finishing the season Ranked 1st in the NJAC in scoring defense, total defense, rush defense, pass efficiency defense, turnovers gained, and first downs given up. Rowan’s defense was ranked 11th in the NCAA and 2nd in the NJAC with 20 interceptions (18 by the Secondary)
 
In 2012, Rowan ranked 1st in the NJAC in scoring defense (11.8 points per game), total defense (309.6 yards per game), and red zone defense (51.5 %). The Profs finished 2nd in pass defense efficiency and 3rd in interceptions in the NJAC.  In 2013, Rowan finished the season ranked in the top 3 in the NJAC in total defense, rushing defense, pass defense efficiency, and red zone defense. That same year, Rowan finished 1st in the NJAC in interceptions with 18 total (8 by the Secondary).
 
Previously, Henry served as an Assistant Football Coach at Cumberland Regional High School (2004-2005).
 
Henry played Cornerback/Safety at Norfolk State University.  Henry earned his Master's Degree in Health and Exercise Science with a concentration in Sports Psychology from California University of Pennsylvania. Henry is a member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), where he serves on the Public Relations Committee and the Minority Issues Committee.
