Brian Looney was named the Assistant Coach for Pitching by Head Coach Ray Skjold in February 2025.
Looney brings a wealth of professional experience to the staff, having spent three seasons in the MLB. He was first drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 43rd round of the 1988 MLB Draft before being selected by the Montreal Expos in the 10th round of the 1991 MLB Draft. After advancing through the Expos’ Minor League system, Looney made his MLB debut in 1993 with Montreal, later playing for the Boston Red Sox in 1995. Over his 16-year playing career, Looney appeared in both Major League and independent ball, showcasing his skills at various levels.
Looney’s MLB journey included notable moments, such as his debut on September 26, 1993, against the New York Mets and his first career start on September 30, 1993, when he pitched three scoreless innings against the Florida Marlins.

Looney spent 13 seasons in the Minor Leagues, including time with the Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston), Salt Lake Buzz (Minnesota), Columbus Clippers (New York Yankees), and several other teams across various MLB organizations. With a career record of 48-43 and a 3.88 ERA over 907 1/3 innings, Looney's Minor League career included 796 strikeouts and a reputation for consistency.
Additionally, Looney played four seasons in the Atlantic League with the Bridgeport Bluefish and Nashua Pride, where he posted a 3.38 ERA and 175 strikeouts in 266 1/3 innings. He later took his talents overseas, pitching and coaching for T&A San Marino in Italy, where his leadership helped secure two European Championships and the league’s best team ERA.
Since returning to Connecticut in 2010, Looney has become the Owner, Operator, and Director of Pitching at Hamden Yards, a premier baseball facility. His work there has helped develop numerous players who have gone on to compete at the college and professional levels.
