WATERBURY, Conn. – Eagles Volleyball opened conference play tonight, picking up their second victory of the season in a gritty team win over the Caldwell University Cougars.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set one of the conference opener initially looked to be an even match for the Eagles and Cougars as they went point-for-point with the Cougars ultimately jumping out to a 25-23 win. In Caldwell's lone set win, Andrea Enabosi had four kills, controlling her swings and staying aggressive.
In set two, the Eagles did damage control in a 25-8 demolition. Holding Caldwell to a –0.167 hitting clip amidst seven errors, the Eagles had 11 kills on 22 attacks with just one error as they gained confidence on their home court for the first time this season. Feeding off the crowd's, and each other's, energy, Elyana Ortiz and Duru Karagoz heated up, combining for six kills in the set. Setter Katalin Kovacs also took a long trip to the service line that spanned 11 points.
Caldwell improved over set three, although off to an 0-6 start, they regained competitiveness and a 14-9 lead with Enabosi's own service run, but Tiffany Verni's Eagles showed persistence. Though they could've quit, Post nipped an early-season habit of giving up mid-set runs as a flock of them each swung hard, tallying kills. Kelsea Moore ended the set with two back-to-back kills, putting her team within one set win of the match title.
The fourth and final set went back-and-forth between the teams, but freshman outside hitter Lilly Chavez got her way on numerus attacks and some help from Kovacs, propelling their team to a set four victory and three in a row to win the entire match.
WHO'S NEXT
The Eagles will head to Philadelphia to face Holy Family University on September 19 at noon. The Eagles are currently on a three-game losing streak to the Tigers with their last loss coming in five sets during last year's CACC Tournament
