Foster Near-Perfect in Faceoff Dot, Picks Up 14 Ground Balls to Help Men's Lacrosse Clinch CACC Tournament Spot

RUTHERFORD, N.J. –  Sophomore midfielder Charlie Foster picked up the second-most single-game ground balls in Post University Men's Lacrosse history, finishing with 14 against Felician University on Saturday night and going 17-for-22 in the faceoff dot to help the Eagles to a 15-4 victory over the Golden Falcons.

For Post, the win earned them a spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament for a fourth straight year, as they will still be playing for seeding in their regular-season finale at home this Wednesday against Chestnut Hill College. The Eagles cannot finish worse than fourth now, as they own the tiebreaker over Holy Family University, but not against the University of Bridgeport, which finished conference play tonight at 5-3 with a win over Dominican (N.Y.).

A win on Wednesday at home would give Post its best conference finish in program history as they would take second from the Griffins with identical 6-2 conference marks and would face them again the week after. A loss would send the Eagles into a First Round matchup for the fourth consecutive season.

THE BASICS

Post University 15, Felician University 4

Post University (9-5, 5-2 CACC)

Felician University (1-9, 0-7 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
In a full team effort that saw Foster dominate in the dot and on defense, sophomore goalie Aiden Waller did not have to face too many shots in his 43:14 of action, making four saves on five attempts from the Golden Falcons before junior goalie Dominick Zichelli entered the game. Zichelli, who earned his first collegiate win in net earlier in the year, gave up a trio of goals while making two saves in 16:46 of playing time.

Senior attacker Ryan Denike and sophomore midfielder Will Brien each had five points for the Eagle offense, with Brien leading the team with four goals, while Denike had three goals and two assists. Senior attacker Leighton Cooke also put together a three-goal game en route to a four-point evening, as six different Post players found the back of the net against junior goalie Landon Santangelo and sophomore goalie Ruairi O'Connor.

The duo of goalies for Felician saw Santangelo allow 14 goals while making nine saves in 45 minutes of playing time, followed by three saves and a goal allowed by O'Connor in the fourth quarter. In all, 12 different Eagles recorded at least one point, with six of them having multi-point games in the 15-4 win. The four goals allowed marked the tenth time this season that Post has allowed less than ten goals in a game, now holding an 8-2 mark in such situations, having only lost to D'Youville University in a 6-5 battle last weekend, as well as 10-7 to Wilmington University at home.

But all season long, Post has been a group of road warriors, posting a 7-2 record to end the regular season away from LaMoy Field while sitting at just 2-3 at home. Now at nine wins on the year, the Eagles have a chance to tie the program record for most single-season wins, a mark that has reached ten twice in 2023 and 2024, but includes CACC Tournament First Round victories. A win against Chestnut Hill on Wednesday would mark the most regular-season wins in program history.

BY THE NUMBER
  • Charlie Foster picked up the second-most ground balls in program history for a single game, finishing with 14 ground balls while winning 17-of-22 faceoffs

  • When allowing 10 goals or fewer this season, Post University improves to 8-2 on the season, with losses only against D'Youville University and Wilmington University
  • After losing three of the first four all-time matchups, Post University has won the last four games against Felician University since the 2023 season
