HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 16, Wilmington University 6 (8 Innings)
Freshman right-hander
Hector Cuevas took the mound in game one, looking to build off his one-hit performance against Lincoln University last week, and he would prove to be effective after a rough start to the affair. After allowing three first-inning runs, Cuevas settled down to pitch five innings, allowing those three runs on four hits with six walks, three strikeouts, a hit batter, and a wild pitch.
Junior right-hander Xavier Cortez got through the first four innings, allowing just one run on a sacrifice fly by sophomore infielder
Gill Dolan, before Contreras dealt the big blow in the sixth inning as part of the 16-unanswered-run stretch that the Eagles embarked on. The senior clobbered his fifth home run of the season, a grand slam, which was only the start of the offensive explosion from Post.
In the eighth inning alone, the Eagles put up 10 runs on seven hits, including six of seven batters safely reaching base either via walk, single, or double, to break open the 13-run lead. Junior outfielder
Joey Cohen had three RBIs via a two-run double and a groundout, while a trio of hitters had at least two RBIs in the victory.
While Cuevas picked up his third win of the year on the mound, freshman right-hander
Eddie Torres notched his first collegiate save, throwing the last three innings and allowing three runs on four hits with a hit batter. Senior infielder Tyler Pirrung extended the game to a ninth inning with his three-run home run off Torres in the eighth inning of the 16-6 affair.
Game 2: Post University 0, Wilmington University 4 (7 Innings)
Graduate outfielder
Andrew Hartman would see his 27-game on-base streak snapped as Potero struck him out twice during his 11-strikeout performance in his complete-game effort, as he finished 0-for-3 in the game. As for Potero, he would allow just three hits, walk one, and hit another in his third victory on the mound this year.
Freshman right-hander
Justin Hascup fell to 3-4 after allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits across his complete six innings, striking out two, walking one, and hitting one. The two run-scoring hits were both two-run home runs coming from junior infielder MJ Phillips in the first inning and sophomore outfielder Brian Klumpp in the fourth inning, as Phillips' was unearned after a throwing error from graduate infielder
Hunter Keller extended the inning with two outs.
Junior catcher Kyle Lowman was the only Wilmington hitter to record multiple hits, while Contreras, Dolan, and junior outfielder
Kevan Diaz recorded the three hits for the Eagles in the defeat.
