Women's Lacrosse Squanders Second-Half Lead, Drops Conference Matchup to Caldwell, 15-10

CALDWELL, N.J. – Sophomore midfielder Caryss Kehl tied for the Post University Women's Lacrosse team lead in caused turnovers with three, while collecting four ground balls, a goal, and an assist for the Eagles, who dropped its third conference matchup of the year, 15-10, on the road against Caldwell University on Wednesday afternoon. Post led 8-4 with 11:05 remaining in the third quarter, before an 8-0 run by the Cougars flipped the game in their favor.

THE BASICS

Post University 10, Caldwell University 15

Post University (1-3, 0-3 CACC)

Caldwell University (2-5, 1-2 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doing work on both sides of the ball, Kehl was off to the races in the first half with a goal and an assist offensively, but contributed three ground balls to lead the team in that category, along with two caused turnovers. Sophomore defender Devyn Amundson also had two caused turnovers on defense as part of the first half that saw Post total up 10 as a team, along with 14 ground balls.

For Caldwell, they had 10 first-half turnovers to go along with seven caused turnovers, but four of those were from sophomore defender Te'Miyah Jones alone. The offense for the Eagles would break through in a big way against senior goalie Sarahkate Schneider, scoring six times on her while she made six more saves.

Freshman attacker Peyton Tully led the offensive attack, scoring or helping out on four of the six goals that Post had, contributing two goals and two assists for four points. Only once would the Eagles trail in the first 30 minutes of action as back-to-back goals from the Cougars made it a 2-1 game after Tully started the scoring.

From there, senior midfielder Claire Greene would score two goals, along with one from Tully and Kehl each, during a 4-0 run by the Eagles that boosted them to a three-goal edge, the same lead they would have into halftime, 6-3. Freshman goalie Katheryn Sousa put together a solid opening half as well, making four saves on seven shots.

It looked like Post would run away with its first conference victory of the season and first since 2024, before Caldwell's offense came to life in the second half. Trailing 8-4 with 11:05 remaining following a goal from senior midfielder Anna D'Angelo, the Cougars went on to score eight straight goals, turning that four-goal deficit into a four-goal lead, 12-8, with 12:01 left in regulation.

During that stretch, Sousa would be carted off the field with an injury after allowing her seventh goal of the day, as graduate goalie Hannah Marriott replaced her for her first-ever appearance in net. Marriott took the loss after allowing eight of the 15 goals that Caldwell had, making just three saves, while senior goalie Serena Barra stonewalled the Eagle offense on the other end. Coming in for Schneider, Barra made a save and allowed two goals in 18:54 of action to help Caldwell take the 15-10 come-from-behind win.

On paper defensively, Post forced 19 turnovers, as Kehl, Amundson, and graduate midfielder Alyssa Hebb each had three caused turnovers, while Kehl and Hebb led the team with four ground balls apiece as part of the 25 the Eagles got as a team. Freshman midfielder Peyton Tully had a team-high five points via two goals and three assists, but also a team-high five turnovers in the loss, while Greene had another hat trick with her four goals.

Only five different players for the Cougars recorded points offensively as freshman attacker Addison Torok led the way with six points on four goals and two assists, while the other four Caldwell players each had four points apiece.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Addison Torok led all players for either team with a six-point game, scoring four goals and tacking on two assists in the win for Caldwell University
