Men's Lacrosse Unable to Keep Up with #15 Molloy University on the Road

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – For Post University Men's Lacrosse, Wednesday night's matchup against #15 Molloy University was a test to see how well they could measure up against one of the top teams in the region and country. Although the result was not what the Eagles would have hoped for, seeing their four-game winning streak come to an end, Post showed flashes of potential in the 17-3 loss at the hands of the Lions.

THE BASICS

Post University 3, #15 Molloy University 17

Post University (7-4)

#15 Molloy University (9-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was all Molloy right from the start as the Lions put up the first six goals of the affair, which culminated with senior attacker Jake Taylor's goal at the 4:21 mark of the second quarter. Freshman attacker Cameron Maunders finally broke the scoreless start for the Eagles with 3:52 left in the first half, with the help of senior attacker Leighton Cooke, briefly cutting the deficit down to five, 6-1, before two more Molloy goals gave them a seven-goal advantage, 8-1, heading into the break.

Sophomore goalie Aiden Waller allowed all eight of the Lions' goals while making five saves, as senior goalie John Basile was near-perfect with four stops on five attempts from the Eagles. Senior midfielder Tommy Corcoran was one of three Molloy players with three first-half points, scoring three times, while freshman attacker Jaden Simick had two goals and an assist, along with Taylor's goal and two assists.

In all, Post was outshot 26-8 in the first half, including 13-5 on goal, while the Lions picked up 21 ground balls, led by four from senior long-stick midfielder Thomas Kofod, who also had two caused turnovers. Post's offense would finish with just three goals in the affair as senior attacker Ryan Denike tallied a goal in the second half, along with the second goal of the game for Maunders in the loss.

Junior goalie Dominick Zichelli came in to relieve Waller for the fourth quarter of the 17-3 loss, making three saves while allowing four goals. Meanwhile, Basile played 58 minutes for the Lions to pick up the victory in net after allowing just two goals and making four saves. Both Simick and Corcoran paced the Molloy offense with four goals each, while Simick led the team with five points. Sophomore midfielder Kegan Swain tallied a team-best five ground balls for Post while going 6-for-17 in the faceoff dot.

BY THE NUMBER
  • Held to only three goals in the loss, it was the fewest number of goals that Post University scored in a game since they were shut out by Franklin Pierce University at home on March 3rd, 2019, by a 15-0 score
  • Wednesday night's loss to Molloy University was only the second loss of the season for Post University on the road, as they were 6-1 in road games entering the game -- Last season, the Eagles went 2-5 on the road, and the 6-2 mark is still the best road record since they went 6-4 in 2024
  • This is only the third time this season in which Post University has allowed more than 10 goals in a game, all three of which have ended in defeat against Assumption University (18 goals), the University of Bridgeport (12 goals), and Molloy University tonight (17 goals) – The Eagles are 7-1 this season when allowing 10 goals or less
  • Post University is still in search of its first win against Molloy University in program history, as they are now 0-9 in the all-time series, with the closest loss being an 8-7 decision back in 2016

WHO'S NEXT
Returning home for three of their final four games of the regular season, Post University will take on Holy Family University in a crucial conference matchup this Saturday at 2:00 PM. The Eagles are a perfect 2-0 in the all-time series against the Tigers, beating them at home in the first-ever matchup, 23-3, while winning 17-8 on the road last year.
