Howell Has Three-Point Day in Overtime Loss for Men's Ice Hockey at Saint Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Senior forward Jacob Howell continued his red-hot weekend for Post University Men's Ice Hockey, scoring twice and adding an assist for the Eagles on Saturday afternoon against Saint Michael's College on the road. Sophomore defenseman Eoin Reager tied the game late for Post to force overtime, where junior forward Ty Bloom netted the game-winner in a 4-3 win for the Purple Knights.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Like he did last night, Howell led off the scoring with an early first-period goal moments after a save from senior goalie Benjamin Cunneen on the other end of the ice in unassisted fashion, before expanding the lead to two goals on a second-period power play goal from Reager and sophomore defenseman Aidan Canady. It was the first of three power play chances that the Eagles would have in the affair, with two coming in the second, in which they converted on 2-of-3 when all was set and done.

Scoring the first of two power play goals for the Purple Knights, Bloom would get Saint Michael's on the scoreboard, cutting the deficit in half, 2-1, as the second period wound down. At that point in the contest, Cunneen had 21 saves while sophomore goalie Evan Plunkett had 15 saves heading into the final 20 minutes after Plunkett had just two saves in the first period on three total shots from Post.

Taking their first lead of the afternoon, back-to-back goals in the span of four minutes from sophomore forward Sj LeComte, who tied the game with just under 8 1/2 minutes left in regulation, before junior forward Hans Forselius gave the Purple Knights the lead with is power-play goal, 3-2, with under four minutes left in regulation. As time wound down in the third, Reager would tie the game on the power play, as the Eagles were on the 6-on-4 attack, forcing overtime, where Bloom would win it with sophomore defenseman Cole Douglas' third assist, helping the cause in the 4-3 comeback win for Saint Michael's.

  • Jacob Howell finished the game being part of all three goals for Post University, scoring twice and tacking on an assist – Howell closes the weekend with four points via three goals and an assist
  • Cole Douglas led Saint Michael's College on offense with three assists, including the assist on Ty Bloom's game-winning goal

WHO'S NEXT 
Post University plays its next three games at home to close out that side of its regular season schedule, starting with two games against Southern New Hampshire University on Friday at 4:00 PM and Saturday at 1:00 PM in the Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, Connecticut. On the road in December, the Eagles split with the Penmen, falling 3-1 before heading into the break with a 2-0 shutout win.
