Men's Basketball Cannot Keep Up with Golden Falcons in Second Half, Fall 85-64

WATERBURY, Conn. –  Graduate forward Derrick Thomas II led all players with 19 points for Post University Men's Basketball on Tuesday night against Felician University at home, but the Eagles were unable to keep pace with a Felician University team that shot 56.7% from the floor (34-for-60) overall, led by sophomore forward Moussa Camara's 17 points and six rebounds, as the Golden Falcons pulled away for the 85-64 victory.

THE BASIC

Post University 64, Felician University 85

Post University (9-13, 8-6 CACC)

Felician University (18-3, 13-1 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Throughout the entirety of the first half, the Eagles would only lead on one occasion, going ahead 3-2 when junior guard Ta'Quan Williams connected on a three-pointer in response to Camara's layup to start the affair. But a 5-0 run by the Golden Falcons started by graduate guard Noah Hutchins gave them the lead for the rest of the half.

The lead blossomed to as many as 14 points, 34-20, with 1:41 left in the frame, as an 18-17 lead quickly became a 31-17 advantage behind a 13-0 run by Felician over the course of about seven minutes of action. The run got Camara above 10 points for the first half, as he finished with a team-high 11 points and six rebounds, hitting all five of his tries from the free throw line. Junior forward Tristan Harcourt had eight points on 3-for-5 shooting, as the Golden Falcons were shooting 41.9% at the break, connecting on 13-for-31 of their shots and only one three-pointer.

On the Post side, they would cut into the 14-point deficit over the final minute and a half with Williams and Thomas II leading the Eagles on a 5-0 run, making it a nine-point game, 34-25. Williams was the leading scorer for Post with eight points on 3-for-6 shooting, hitting a pair of threes, while Thomas II was right behind him with six points. The Eagles were narrowly outrebounded, 20-16, making 10-of-28 shots (35.7%) overall and 4-of-16 (25%) three-point tries.

Coming out firing in the second half, the Eagles would start on a 7-0 run, cutting their deficit down to two points, 34-32, before Moussa's layup broke up the run. While Post would never take the lead throughout the remainder of the game, they would tie it up one final time at 51 all with 11:39 left in regulation. Trailing by six points, 51-45, back-to-back threes from freshman guard Harry Scully and graduate forward Brody Limric tied it up, before Felician responded with a 9-0 run of their own to take a 60-51 lead and never look back the rest of the way.

Although Williams and Thomas II combined for six consecutive points, making it a three-point game with 8:45 remaining, they were unable to withstand the hot shooting of the Golden Falcons, who quickly pulled away down the stretch. As a team, Felician was 21-for-29 (72.4%) from the floor, connecting on half of their six threes, and all six of their free throws en route to a 51-point second half. In contrast, Post shot 15-for-32 (46.8%) overall, taking 17 second-half threes and making only six of them. Throughout the entire game, the Eagles took 33 three-point attempts, making only 10 of them on the day.

Beyond Moussa's 17 points, junior guard Jeremiah Anderson scored 15 points, Harcourt put up 14 points, and both junior forward Eddie Evans and junior guard Tavian Pullock each had 10 points each as the five double-digit scorers for the Golden Falcons. Williams finished with 18 points for the Eagles on 7-for-12 shooting beyond Thomas II's 19-point effort, while junior forward Zion Lott also reached double figures with 10 points of his own.
