HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles would head into halftime with a double-digit lead, 26-16, the first time they have led by 10 or more points at the break. It would come off a 4-for-6 shooting half by sophomore forward
Tiara Tyson, who led the team with eight points, followed close behind by junior forward
Alyssa Rossignol, who had seven points on 3-for-6 shooting and was tied for the team lead in rebounds with five, as well as led the way with three steals.
Senior guard Kyra Rose led the offense with eight points for the College of Staten Island on just 2-for-5 shooting with four free throws made as the Dolphins struggled to find their stroke from anywhere on the floor. The Eagles only led by two after the first quarter, 10-8, shooting 5-for-18 (27.8%) from the floor, but six of the eight points for College of Staten Island would come from the free throw line as they were just 1-for-12 overall (8.3%).
Finishing the half scoring only eight points in each of the first two quarters, the Dolphins as a team were 4-for-29 (13.8%) shooting overall and 0-for-9 from three-point land, scoring half of their 16 points from the free throw line from 11 total fouls by the Eagles. Post rebounded from their low shooting first quarter with a 7-for-12 effort (58.3%) to take that 10-point lead, turning the poor shooting start into a 40% effort by halftime.
Back-to-back buckets for the Dolphins to start the third quarter brought them within six points as Rose would score four of the first six points that College of Staten Island scored in the frame. But after scoring 10 points in the first 4:09 of the quarter, the shooting went cold again for the Dolphins, leading to an 11-0 quarter-ending run by the Eagles to pull away for good after going ahead by 18 points, 44-26, entering the fourth.
Winning by 21 points, 54-33, Post's defense forced 27 turnovers, including 19 steals, which were the third-most for a game in program history, all while the Dolphins went 12-for-53 (22.6%) from the floor and 1-for-18 from three-point range (5.6%). The lone three of the day for College of Staten Island came with 3:27 left in the game. Rose finished as the team's leading scorer with 14 points in 33 minutes on 5-for-10 shooting.
