RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Senior guard
Tre Duncan put up a career-high 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting, hitting 6-of-9 threes for Post University Men's Basketball on Thursday night against Felician University on the road, but a slow start for the Eagles would be too much for them to overcome. Trailing by 17 points at halftime, Post would come back to tie it at 53 in the second half, but junior guard Jeremiah Anderson's 26-point, 10-rebound double-double helped keep the Golden Falcons undefeated in conference play at 10-0 and earn their second straight win against the Eagles in the all-time series.
THE BASIC
Post University 68, Felician University 75
Post University (7-11, 5-4Â CACC)
Felician University (15-2, 10-0 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Three-point shooting would propel the Golden Falcons in the first half, shooting 7-for-14 (50%) from beyond the arc, en route to a 40% shooting half overall (18-for-45), which helped them break open that 17-point lead at halftime. Post's 11-for-33 (33%) half from the floor was highlighted by just four threes as a team, while junior guard
Ta'Quan Williams led the way with nine points, followed by Duncan with his eight points. Felician's lead grew to as many as 19 points with 3:41 left in the half, while Post only led one time, in the opening couple of minutes, by three points, 5-2, after Duncan's three.Â
That three would precede an 11-0 run that gave the Golden Falcons the lead for good in a half where three players finished with double-digit scoring. While Anderson had 10 points and seven rebounds, along with six assists, junior guard Tavian Pullock had a team-high 14 points, while sophomore forward Mussa Camara recorded 12 points. As a team, Felician held a 29-20 rebounding edge and only turned the ball over twice, resulting in no points off turnovers for Post.
A 17-point deficit would still be the case with 18:35 to go in regulation after a three from Anderson, but junior guard
Zion Lott's layup helped start the run for the Eagles that pulled them even for the first time since it was 2-2 with 17:57 left in the first half. Lott's shot would be the first of two consecutive shots for the junior, scoring five points and cutting down the deficit to 12. By the midway point of the half, graduate forward
Gianni Thompson's layup began an 8-0, game-tying stretch by Post, capped off by graduate guard
Cape Holden's three, tying the game at 53 all.
Despite tying the game with 10:21 left, the Eagles would never regain the lead nor pull even with Felician for the rest of the evening. A quick 4-0 spurt would be enough to separate the rest of the way, as junior forward
Deng Akok's layup, which made it 57-55, would be one of the last times the Eagles were within a single score. Akok led the team with 11 rebounds, scoring just four points offensively. Trailing by one following a Williams layup at the 5:36 mark, freshman guard Anthony Troncellito connected on a three, followed by another Anderson three around two free throws from graduate forward
Derrick Thomas II, to put the Golden Falcon lead back up to five points, 66-61.
That three from Anderson would be the start of him scoring 10 of the last 12 points for Felician during his 26-point game, as the Eagles could not pull off the comeback victory, seeing their three-game winning streak snapped, 75-68. Beyond the 22-point game from Duncan, Williams finished with 15 points on 7-for-15 shooting with five rebounds as Post finished the game shooting 38.6% from the field (27-for-70) and 29.4% from three (10-for-34).
