RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Graduate forward
Megan Landsiedel dropped a season-high 16 points for Post University Women's Basketball, but the three-game winning streak would come to a close for the Eagles at the hands of Felician University on the road as sophomore center Stephanie Formby's 26 points and junior forward Ane Valle's 22 points helped the Golden Falcons hold off Post, 79-72.
THE BASIC
Post University 72, Felician University 79
Post University (5-9, 3-6 CACC)
Felician University (13-4, 8-2 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Landsiedel got her career day started right away with a three to give the Eagles the lead as part of an 8-1 run to start the game from the graduate student and junior forward
Alyssa Rossignol. Rossignol recorded her third straight 20-plus point game with 23 points on 8-for-15 shooting, while tying for the team lead in rebounds with six in the defeat. Maintaining the lead for most of the first quarter, it would only be at the end of the frame when Felician worked their way back into it, going on an 11-4 run that gave them their first lead of the contest, 20-19, before Post regained control by one, 22-21, entering the second.
Freshman center Lilla Szilvassy quickly flipped that one-point deficit back in favor of the Golden Falcons as her four points on a 6-0 run by the Golden Falcons put them in front by five, 27-22, forcing the Eagles to respond with a 5-0 run of their own by Rossignol and sophomore guard
Jasmine Day-Cox to knot the game back up at 27. Post's last lead of the entire affair would come in the waning moments of the second when Landsiedel's jumper capped off a 7-0 run with 1:36 to go, before Valle and Formby combined for the last four Felician points, giving them the two-point advantage, 41-39, at half.Â
Although remaining close throughout the entirety of the second half, the Eagles could never tie or take the lead back, after a low-scoring third saw the Golden Falcons edge them by just three points, 13-10, which made it a five-point game, 54-49, entering the final 10 minutes of the affair. Nine points would be the largest lead that Felician had throughout the night, coming in the third quarter, while Rossignol and the Eagles looked to chip away at their deficit in the fourth.Â
They would do just that, pulling within one point, 61-60, after back-to-back buckets from sophomore guard
Kamryn Porter and Rossignol, with 4:07 left in regulation. However, the big games from Valle and Formby would ward off the Eagles' attempt at a comeback, keeping them at bay over the final four minutes and change, leading by as many as eight points down the stretch on their way to a 79-72 win.Â
For Formby, she led the way on the boards for the Golden Falcons with 12 rebounds en route to a double-double with her 26 points, while Valle closed with 22 points on 9-for-13 shooting, narrowly missing a double-double of her own with eight rebounds. Felician won the battle on the boards by a significant 41-25 margin, as well as held an edge in shooting percentage, going 28-for-57 (49.1%) overall while Post was 26-for-56 (46.4%) overall, but shot a blistering 45% from three, going 9-for-20. Rossignol and Landsiedel would be the only double-digit scorers for Post, as would Formby and Valle for Felician.
