Landsiedel, Women's Basketball Defense Frustrates Dominican (N.Y.) En Route to Third Straight Win

WATERBURY, Conn. – Junior forward Alyssa Rossignol led Post University Women's Basketball with 22 points on 10-for-23 shooting as the Eagle defense stifled their third consecutive opponent in Dominican (N.Y.) on Tuesday night, en route to a dominant 62-47 win in the Drubner Center. During their now three-game winning streak, Post's defense has allowed under 50 points in each outing, tying or winning the battle of the boards in all three cases as well.

THE BASIC

Post University 62, Dominican (N.Y.) 47

Post University (5-8, 3-5 CACC)

Dominican (N.Y.) (5-13, 3-7 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Four points would be the largest first-half advantage that the Lady Chargers were able to take on the Eagles, and it would come right away in the first quarter, jumping out to a 6-2 lead out of the gate. Junior forward Alyssa Rossignol started the game off with a layup for Post before a trio of baskets for Dominican (N.Y.) gave them a 6-0 run to take that lead.

One possession would separate the two teams throughout the rest of the first as graduate forward Megan Landsiedel and junior guard Tamia Nunes exchanged threes at the end of the frame, putting the Lady Chargers on top by two, 17-15. To start the second, the Eagles would miss their first five shots, taking nearly half the quarter to get their first field goal, courtesy of junior guard Jaslin Walker, making it a 21-20 deficit for Post.

That would be the start of a 6-0 run in which the Eagles would take the lead into halftime, 30-25, after a Walker three moments earlier gave them their largest lead of the half at seven points. Rossignol led a Post offense that was shooting 36.4% (12-for-33) from the field, accounting for a third of those baskets with Walker right behind her with seven points on 3-for-4 shooting.

Out of the 11 total players to hit the floor for the Lady Chargers, only their starters would record points, with senior guard Cayla Howard leading with eight points on 4-for-12 shooting. Only three field goal attempts would come from the Dominican (N.Y.) bench as part of a 40.7% shooting half (11-for-27) for the Lady Chargers.

As would be the case in their last home game, the third quarter would be where the Eagles pulled away, outscoring Dominican (N.Y.) by a 21-10 margin. Rossignol would put in eight points during the frame to lead all the Post scorers, who combined to go 9-for-16 (56.5%) from the field while hitting a pair of free throws. The junior would be the only Eagle in double digits with her 22 points, while the defense forced 28 turnovers, including 15 steals, led by sophomore guard Jasmine Day-Cox with four.

Despite going 0-for-4 from the field, senior forward Claire Greene had a big game on the boards, bringing down 12, a new season high for her, surpassing her season-opening 11 rebounds against Southern New Hampshire University. Winning by 15 points, 62-47, Post finished shooting 41% from the field (25-for-61), while Dominican (N.Y.) shot similarly at 40.4% (21-for-52), but were 1-for-16 (6.3%) from three.

The only double-digit scorer for the Lady Chargers, freshman forward Ketura Rutty, finished with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double, shooting 3-for-6 from the field off the bench. Winning their third straight game overall, Post snaps a two-game losing streak against Dominican (N.Y.), winning at home for the first time since December 2nd, 2023, in the all-time series.
