HOW IT HAPPENED
After allowing only 23 first-half points against Caldwell University earlier in the week, the Post defense gave up just 15 points to the Wildcats, their fewest this season after allowing 16 points against the College of Staten Island back on January 6th. Wire-to-wire would be the only way to describe Saturday's game, as sophomore forward
Kamryn Porter made two free throws at the 8:31 mark, and only one tie would occur the rest of the way.
Following a layup from junior forward Emma Brown that tied the game up at two all, the Eagles would go on a 15-0 run the rest of the first quarter, taking a 17-2 lead into the second, in which the run would be capped at 17 straight points with a jumper from sophomore forward
Tiara Tyson. Wilmington closed that first, going 1-for-12 (8.3%) from the field while missing all six of their free throws.
Post's lead expanded to as many as 30 points, 40-10, with 1:29 left in the second quarter after Rossignol's score, before a quarter-ending 5-0 run by Wilmington made it a 40-15 game heading into halftime. Brown led Wilmington with seven points on 3-for-8 shooting, while Rossignol led a Post team that saw all nine players score a point in the first half with 12 points on 5-for-13 shooting.
From the field, the Eagles shot 12-for-33 (36.4%) and were 13-for-15 (86.7%) from the free-throw line, while Wilmington came back in the second quarter with four field goals to finish 5-for-24 (20.8%) from the floor, but just 4-for-14 (28.6%) from the line.
Continuing their dominance in all facets of the game, Post was relentless on offense, extending their lead to as many as 41 points, 86-45, with 1:19 left on a jumper from sophomore forward
McKensi Forde en route to that 86-48 win. Beyond the 23 points from Rossignol, junior guard
Jaslin Walker showed out with a career-high 13 points on 4-for-8 shooting for Post.
Senior guard Armani Jackson-Bell led Wilmington with 17 points on 5-for-12 shooting, while Brown finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points while leading the way with 11 rebounds. In total, the Wildcats had 38 rebounds while Post closed with 40 rebounds, making it the second time this year in which the Eagles have won the battle of the boards.
Post's shooting continued to flourish with a season-high 45.9% showing in addition to making 25-of-29 free throws for their second-best finish of the year at 86.2%. Defensively, they would win the turnover battle by a 25-12 margin, turning it into a 21-2 advantage in points off turnovers.
