Peric Reaches 1,000 Career Kills, Women's Volleyball Gets Back in Win Column at Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. -- Graduate outside hitter Kristina Peric reached 1,000 career kills with Post University Women's Volleyball in the first set on Friday night against Franklin Pierce University, as part of a career spanning the Eagles, AIC, and Quinnipiac University along the way. Finishing with 22 kills to lead the team, Post got back in the win column after last night's four-set loss to Bentley University, taking down Franklin Pierce University in four sets, 3-1, for their second win of the season against the Ravens.

Entering the season, the Eagles had not beaten Franklin Pierce since October 19th, 2004, losing 11 straight matches before sweeping them two weeks ago at home in the Drubner Center. Back in 2004, Post also took down the Ravens twice in the same year, as the all-time series still heavily favors Franklin Pierce by a 15-4 margin.

Franklin Pierce University (3-8)

HOW IT HAPPENED
En route to her 1,000th kill, Peric had nine kills in the opening set to help lead the Eagles to a narrow 25-21 win, after leading by five and being at match point with the score at 24-19. Post committed seven attack errors in the first set while still attacking at a .263 clip, but for the four-set match, they would accumulate 32 attack errors and attack at just a .114 clip overall. Peric, who had a team-leading 62 attempts leading to her 22 kills, also had 16 attack errors, netting her a .097 attack percentage by the end of the match.

Despite allowing the Ravens to start the second set with a 7-0 lead, five errors over the next 10 points by Franklin Pierce allowed the Eagles to get back in the set and eventually pull even at 15 all following a stretch in which they scored six of seven points. Eight ties and five lead changes made up the frame, including a tie at 23 all after Post's 3-0 run started by Peric, which brought the Eagles two points away from winning the set at 23-21, before Franklin Pierce responded. But sealing the set with the next two points would be the defense with blocks from junior middle blocker Nuri Shahid-Stevenson and sophomore middle blocker Alani Duncan, completing the set comeback, 25-23.

For the Eagles, it would be their turn to take a big lead early on, rattling off the first seven of eight points to take a 7-1 lead behind two kills from Duncan and one each from Peric and junior outside hitter Vivien Andrea Fehervari. The Ravens would return their favor from the second set, chipping away slowly at the deficit before unloading with a 9-0 run while trailing by two, 15-13. That would be all they would need to force a fourth set with a 25-21 victory.

In a match that was defined by runs, the backbreaking run to help the Eagles clinch the four-set victory would come with the fourth set tied at 13 all, when an error from senior setter Annaka Lindstrom spurred an 8-0 run from Post, giving them more than enough breathing room to seal the deal, 25-18, for their 10th victory of the season.

In addition to the second big match of the week for Peric, Duncan went off for nine kills and a team-high three block solos as well as a block assist and a dig. Senior libero Alyssa Groves had her second straight 20-plus dig match with 28 digs as one of three Post players eclipsing double digits in the category, along with Andrea Fehervari and graduate setter Alice DiFrancesco. DiFrancesco had her seventh double-double match overall and third in a row with 36 assists to go along with her 10 digs.

Senior outside hitter Avery LeBlanc led Franklin Pierce with 14 kills as well as 17 digs for a double-double, while senior outside hitter Katholiki Loukia had nine kills and five block assists. The Ravens as a team notched 11 solo blocks and 14 block assists to go along with seven service aces, and Lindstrom led the way, setting up the attack with 24 assists.
