Women's Ice Hockey Falls in Season Opener Against University of St. Thomas

SHELTON, Conn. – Opening up their 2025-26 campaign against the same team they did last season, the result would turn out the same as it did a year ago in game one. The Eagles began a new coaching era with Post Men's Ice Hockey alumni Brandon Brown entering his first season at the helm of the program, but would drop a 7-0 decision on Saturday afternoon at the Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, Connecticut.

THE BASICS

Post University 0, University of St. Thomas 7

Post University (0-1-0)

University of St. Thomas (1-0-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Post defense would hold strong in the first and third periods of the game, allowing just one goal in each frame to the Tommies, but the second period would be where the University of St. Thomas separated themselves from the Eagles, tacking on five goals, including two in less than a minute as part of their offensive explosion.

Senior goalie Hannah Saunders played the first two periods of the game, making 26 saves while allowing six goals before being lifted for sophomore goalie Devyn Amundson in the third. Amundson allowed the final goal of the afternoon, but fought off 23 shots by the Tommies in only 20 minutes of action in relief.

Graduate goalie Julia Minotti, who joined St. Thomas this season, only faced five shots from Post's offense to earn the shutout win, including staving off three power-play chances that the Eagles had. On the other side of the coin, the Tommies were 2-for-4 on the power-play on a day where six different players found the back of the net.

Junior forward Rylee Bartz finished with one goal and two assists, while also going 15-for-19 in the faceoff dot as part of a 48-for-62 afternoon as a team for the Tommies. Junior forward Ella Boerger assisted on three of the goals for St. Thomas as part of her three-point day, as the Tommies spread the wealth with 10 different players recording assists and seven players finishing with multi-point games.
