Baumann Shuts Down Chestnut Hill, Rivera Hits Go-Ahead Home Run in Baseball Sweep of Griffins, Eagles Remain Undefeated in Conference Play

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – It has been a historic start to the conference schedule for Post University Baseball as the wins continue to accumulate for the Eagles in the early part of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference slate. Taking on Chestnut Hill College for a Wednesday afternoon road matchup, the conference winning streak continued to grow as Post took care of business in a pair of seven-inning affairs, 14-3 and 5-4, moving to a program-record 10-0 to open conference play.

The Eagles have not lost a game against a conference opponent in over 11 months now, winning 16 straight games with the last loss coming on April 21st, 2024, against Jefferson University in the first game of their doubleheader at home, 13-8, in eight innings. After starting the season 0-7, Post has now won 11 of their last 12 games overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Post University 14, Chestnut Hill College 3 (7 Innings)
Senior utility Damaurys Rodriguez led the Eagles with a 3-for-4 performance in game one, netting himself three RBIs, three runs scored, a sacrifice fly, and a stolen base while sophomore right-hander Jake Baumann made the first start of his career. Baumann pitched a dominant 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts, two walks, and a hit batter before giving way to freshman right-hander Logan Pulitano's final 2/3 innings in which he closed out what was a 14-3 win for Post.

Sophomore infielder Jesse Alfalla reached base four times in the win, all coming via walks while scoring three times and driving in a run with one of those walks in the seventh inning. 11 of the 14 runs for the Eagles came in two innings with a five-run fourth inning courtesy of a Rodriguez RBI single, a two-run double from junior catcher Eric Perez, and an error from the Griffins to extend the lead to seven runs, 8-1, at that point.

Three RBI singles along with two walks in the seventh led to another big inning for Post to the tune of six runs as part of their 14-run outing. Graduate right-hander Jason Kelly took the loss on the mound for Chestnut Hill after lasting four innings in which he allowed eight runs (three earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts, two walks, and a hit batter.

Game 2: Post University 5, Chestnut Hill College 4 (7 Innings)
Senior third baseman Justin Rivera played the hero in game two as part of his two-RBI game after giving the Eagles an early 1-0 lead in the first inning with his sacrifice fly. Post would open up a 4-0 lead through the first three innings as junior outfielder Harby Valera hit his first home run of the year in the second inning, a two-run home run, and then Perez rounded out the early scoring for Post with an RBI single in the third.

However, Chestnut Hill would chip away at their four-run deficit, getting two back in the fourth against sophomore right-hander Sebastian Velasquez on an RBI double from sophomore infielder Wyatt Spinks and an RBI single from sophomore infielder Michael Pascoe, making it a two-run game, 4-2. Velasquez's day would be done after four innings of work in which he allowed those two runs on six hits with six strikeouts and four walks.

Tying the game at four in the sixth against sophomore right-hander Zion Fraser, a one-out RBI single from junior shortstop Kenyon Motley scored one run before a misplay from graduate catcher Isaiah Velazco allowed the tying run to score heading into the seventh inning. That would be where Rivera left his mark with a solo home run off senior right-hander Colby Seelig, giving the Eagles the lead 5-4 before freshman right-hander CJ Pierce shut the door on the program-record 10-0 start to conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS
