HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 15, Caldwell University 4 (7 Innings)
Sophomore infielder
Jesse Alfalla's bat came to life to the tune of a 3-for-5 game with a double, four RBIs, and two runs scored as the Eagles overcame an early 4-0 deficit brought on by a four-run first inning from the Cougars against senior right-hander
Brennan Holligan. A pair of one-out singles followed by a double steal from senior outfielder Liam Lombardi allowed the first run to come across before an RBI ground out from senior utility Sean Brown, a wild pitch from Holligan, and an RBI single from junior outfielder Jimmy Kurtz gave the Cougars all their offense for the game.
Mounting a response with a seven-run second inning, three walks following a leadoff single from graduate outfielder
Jaylen Kelley gave the Eagles their first run of the day before tying it at four on Alfalla's bases-clearing double off of sophomore right-hander John Rigas. While senior utility
Damaurys Rodriguez gave Post the lead with his RBI single, Kelley's second at-bat of the inning would cap off the high-scoring frame for the Eagles, who led 7-4, with his two-run double.
Rodriguez would go on to finish the game 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in a game that saw five Post players record at least two runs batted in. After his rough first inning, Holligan would turn things around to the tune of a six-inning performance that featured only those four runs allowed on six hits with eight strikeouts, two walks, and a wild pitch to move to 2-1 on the year as the Eagles enacted the 10-run mercy rule, 15-4, in seven innings.
Game 2: Post University 3, Caldwell University 1 (7 Innings)
A pitcher's duel would highlight the second game of the afternoon as graduate right-hander
Matt Semon, who made his first start since February 22nd, and freshman left-hander Jared Jacobus went toe-to-toe with each other on the mound.
Pitching efficiently, Semon needed just 56 pitches to finish his four-inning outing with no runs allowed on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk to earn the win. Jacobus would be just as impressive in his five innings, allowing three runs on four hits with 11 strikeouts, four walks, and two hit batters. All three of the runs for Post in their 3-1 win came in the second inning against Jacobus to the tune of a two-run double for junior catcher
Eric Perez and the fifth RBI of the doubleheader for Alfalla on his RBI single.
Against sophomore right-hander
Jake Baumann, the Cougars would get a run back in the fifth on an RBI ground out from freshman catcher Chris Hopf and threaten against Baumann in the sixth with two runners on with two outs at which point he would be lifted for freshman right-hander
CJ Pierce. Pierce would escape the inning unharmed and then work a 1-2-3 seventh inning to give the Eagles the 3-1 win and the sweep of Caldwell, pushing them to 6-0 in the conference.
