HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior right-hander Brennan Holligan struggled in the first inning against the Ravens before settling in for six innings of work as Franklin Pierce knocked him around for four runs right out of the gate. Sophomore outfielder Jayden Villanueva led things off with a single, eventually coming around on an RBI single by junior outfielder Shane Hewlette with nobody out. Following the first out of the game, senior infielder Anthony Marcano's double and DeAndrade's triple boosted the Ravens to a three-run lead before the second out of the inning via junior outfielder Joey Acker's ground out, scored the fourth run.
The rest of the way, Holligan would allow just two runs on DeAndrade's home run in the fourth and an error on his pickoff attempt at first in the sixth inning. The senior finished his first start of the season going six innings while allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits with nine strikeouts, a walk, and a balk with 89 pitches thrown.
On the other side of the field, Pavia spun six innings of four-hit ball for the Ravens allowing two runs with eight strikeouts, two walks, a hit batter, and a wild pitch. Those two runs that Pavia gave up would come in the fourth when senior third baseman Justin Rivera's leadoff double eventually led to RBI ground outs from junior outfielder Harby Valera and senior infielder Hunter Keller after graduate first baseman Hayden Roberge was hit by a pitch following Rivera's double.
By the time both starters exited, Franklin Pierce found themselves ahead by four, 6-2, making way for senior right-hander Stephen Bangs' three-inning save. Bangs allowed just one run in those three innings, a Rivera RBI ground out in the eighth, while allowing three hits, striking out three batters, and walking one in his appearance. A single from Acker in the eighth as well as DeAndrade's second home run, gave the Ravens four runs off the Post bullpen, spoiling opening day for the Eagles who fell 10-3 on Thursday evening.
Valera was the only Post hitter with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI while Rivera reached base twice via his double and a walk. The senior also drove in a run while also scoring once, being one of only three Eagles alongside Valera and senior utility player Damaurys Rodriguez to reach base multiple times in the game.
