MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – After being slated to play last night in the Northeast-10 Tournament Quarterfinals against fourth-seeded Assumption University on the road, fifth-seeded Post University Men's Ice Hockey had to wait until this afternoon to play after transportation issues forced the game to be postponed to 1:00 PM today. Coming into the tournament having their best season since their 2021-22 NE10 Championship run in which they fell in the Championship Game, the offense for Post was unable to get going, dropping their second straight road game against the Greyhounds, this time in shutout fashion, 3-0, bringing their season to a close.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Coming out firing in the first period, it was the Eagles who generated a total of 18 shots offensively, with nine of them reaching graduate goalie Thomas McLarnon, which he hauled in to keep Post off the scoreboard. For the Greyhounds, they would get a pair of power-play opportunities in the first 20 minutes, capitalizing on their first one.
Junior forward Dean Simeone got Assumption in front, redirecting a shot taken at the point by sophomore defenseman Patrick McKiernan past junior goalie
Benjamin Cunneen for the 1-0 advantage near the halfway point. Cunneen closed the period having made 12 saves on the 13 attempts taken by the Greyhounds, who led by one on the Simeone goal heading into the second.
Nothing would do for either side in an even second period that saw both teams register 10 shots on goal and two power-play chances. Both Cunneen and McLarnon kept their opposition off the scoreboard with 10 saves each, while the Eagles managed just one shot on their man advantage, and the Greyhounds had a singular shot go wide by senior forward Ronny Paragallo on their chance.
Early on in the third, the Eagles would have a chance at the equalizer, going on another power play courtesy of a hooking call issued to senior defenseman John Woernle. McLarnon would turn away two shots by Post on that chance while eventually, sophomore forward Daniel Lemanski gave the Greyhounds some breathing room just over halfway into the frame, followed by sophomore forward Sean Donoghue five minutes after that to make it a 3-0 advantage for the home team.
Manufacturing one last gasp, Paragallo's five-minute major for a facemask inside of four minutes to go gave the Eagles their chance to get themselves back into the affair as they would remain on the power play the rest of the way. However, while with a 6-on-4 advantage after pulling Cunneen from the goal, freshman forward
Bradley McMains would be charged with a five-minute major for kicking, bringing the teams back to even.
Three more penalties would be issued between the two teams on top of the disqualifications by McMains and Paragallo that came with less than five minutes to go in regulation before the Greyhounds were able to run out the clock, punching their ticket to face top-seeded Saint Anselm College on Saturday in the Northeast-10 Tournament Semifinals.
