Women's Basketballl Puts on Clinic Against Wilmington, Breaks Multiple Records in Offensive Explosion

WILMINGTON, Del. –  It was an offensive explosion for Post University Women's Basketball who saw five players finish with double-digit scoring in a record-breaking performance against Wilmington University on Saturday afternoon. Snapping a four-game losing streak, the Eagles put up 56 first-half points, their most since November 16th, 2019 against Cheyney University of Pennsylvania en route to a 61-point victory, 103-42, which was their largest margin of victory in program history for the Eagles who made 40 shots from the floor which also tied a program record.

THE BASICS

Post University 103, Wilmington University 42

Post University (5-17, 4-6 CACC)

Wilmington University (0-20, 0-9 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Putting up a season-high 56 points in the first half while holding the Wildcats to a season-low four points in the second quarter, the Eagles took a commanding 41-point lead heading into the halftime break as everyone got in on a piece of the scoring action. Sophomore forward Alyssa Rossignol and sophomore guard Hannah Finnerty accounted for 35 of the 56 Post points as Rossignol went 7-of-9 from the field with 19 first-half points and a 6-for-12 showing from Finnerty got her to 16 first-half points.

Finnerty and Rossignol helped get the Eagles off to a 10-1 start and with their team up just six points, 12-4, they would outscore Wilmington by a 19-7 margin the rest of the first quarter to take a 20-point lead, 31-11, heading into the second. Continuing to be all Post, they would allow the Wildcats to score four points through the first 4 ½ minutes of the frame before ending it on a 14-0 run to bring them up to that 41-point advantage going into the break.

As a team, Post shot 50% (21-for-42) through the opening 20 minutes of the game while hitting on 40% (6-of-15) threes and 72.7% of their free throws (8-of-11). The Eagles strung together 16 forced turnovers, resulting in 22 points off turnovers while only turning it over four times themselves, which led to no points for Wilmington. The Wildcats were only 4-for-21 (19%) from the field and made 1-of-11 (9.1%) threes in the same span as the red-hot Eagles.

While both sides would play an even third quarter in which Post would only be able to extend their lead by three more points to 44, 75-31, they would get right back to dominating in the fourth and final quarter en route to that record-breaking margin of victory. Outscoring the Wildcats by 17 points in the frame to polish off a 47-point second half, the Eagles emerged with a record-setting 61-point victory, 103-42, which also featured the second-highest offensive output in program history behind their 107-point performance against Mercy University on February 25th, 2014.

Rossignol in just 20 minutes of action had a team-high 25 points on 9-for-15 shooting and after Finnerty's stellar first half, she would end the game with 18 points on 6-for-13 shooting in 26 minutes played. Freshman guard Kamryn Porter and senior guard Jayden Burns each finished in double digits with 12 and 11 points respectively, as did sophomore forward Emma Carman with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting in 14 minutes of playing time.

Freshman guard Jasmine Day-Cox led all players with a career-high 13 rebounds and junior forward Nicole Parks narrowly missed her first career double-double after recording nine points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles who had 50 total rebounds in the game to just 31 rebounds for Wilmington. Senior forward Aniyah Bond led the Wildcats with 14 points on 4-of-13 shooting as Wilmington finished the game shooting 12-for-47 (25.5%) compared to a season-high 48.8% afternoon for Post who was 40-for-82 from the field in the win.
