WATERBURY, Conn. – Chomping at the bit all evening long after falling down by double-digits in the early going, the second-half comeback for Post University Women's Basketball would come up just short despite 22 points from sophomore forward
Alyssa Rossignol and a 46.8% shooting half for the Eagles. A late-game barrage of threes as part of an 8-0 run for the Lady Chargers helped them thwart the comeback by Post in their 76-65 victory in the Drubner Center on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Scoring 10 points in the first quarter, sophomore guard Tamia Nunes led the Lady Chargers to a 12-point lead while going 4-for-6 from the floor. The only Eagles' lead in the first 10 minutes would come with 7:38 to go as sophomore forward
Alyssa Rossignol made her first basket of the game, making it 4-2, before a 9-0 run led by junior guard Cayla Howard, who had six first-quarter points, flipped the lead in favor of Dominican (N.Y.) by seven, 11-4.
Only able to get the deficit down to five points, 13-8, with 2:22 remaining in the first, the Lady Chargers would score 10 of the final 12 points in the frame, taking that 12-point edge, 23-11. As a team, Dominican (N.Y.) opened the game 10-for-20 (50%) overall and 3-for-7 (42.9%) from three while the Eagles struggled to the tune of 5-for-14 (35.7%) shooting and a 0-for-3 showing from beyond the arc.
The scoring would go cold for both sides in the second quarter as the two teams combined to go 8-for-29 (27.5%) from the floor, making four shots each. For Post, they would make 5-of-8 free throws to help them make up four points on their deficit and trail by eight going into the break, 33-25. Three players for the Eagles had four points each while senior guard
Jayden Burns led all Post players with five points in a 9-for-27 team shooting half.
As for the Lady Chargers, Nunes would go a quiet 0-for-4 in the second, but still lead her team with 10 points followed by Howard at eight points, who had only two points in the frame. Dominican (N.Y.) was just 14-for-36 (38.9%) from the floor in the half but hit 5-of-13 (38.5%) of their threes en route to that eight-point halftime lead.
Coming to life in the third quarter, Rossignol scored nine of the first 13 points for the Eagles' offense through the first four minutes of action, helping Post pull within two points, 40-38, and forcing a Lady Chargers' timeout with 6:15 left in the quarter. Down by nine points, the sophomore helped the Eagles to a 7-0 run with five points, getting her to 15 points, while senior guard
Naj White closed the run with her layup.
That timeout would prove to be the spark that Dominican (N.Y.) needed as that two-point lead ballooned back to double digits at 12 points, 53-41, with a 14-3 run over the next four minutes and change. Threes from senior guard Angelina DiMarsico, graduate guard Tanasha Mills, and Nunes helped spearhead that stretch before the Eagles answered back one more to end the frame. Over the final 2:30, Burns kicked off a responding 6-0 run highlighted by a pair of Lady Charger turnovers to make it a six-point game, 53-47, heading into the fourth and final quarter.
Down by six points, freshman guard
Jasmine Day-Cox helped spark a 4-0 run for the Eagles to get them within two points, 57-55, but that was the closest they would be able to cut the deficit down to. Following a layup by junior forward
Nicole Parks with 3:43 remaining in regulation, which made it a two-point game again, 61-59, that would be when the Lady Chargers made their game-ending run by scoring eight of the next 10 points to take an eight-point lead and never looked back.
Following another DiMarsico three with 43 seconds, making it a 69-61 game, the Lady Chargers would go on to expand their lead up to 12 points in part to a couple technical fouls on Post and foul against Parks which led to another 7-2 run at the end of regulation to give them the 76-65 victory. In addition to Rossignol's 22 points, White was the only other Eagle in double figures with 11 points on 5-for-14 shooting while Howard led Dominican (N.Y.) with 18 points on 7-of-17 shooting.
