Post University (3-5, 2-1 CACC)
Holy Family University (4-3, 0-3 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lott led Post at halftime with 10 points on 3-for-7 shooting, while a balanced attack by Holy Family saw nine different players record points on the stat sheet. The Eagles would only trail twice in the opening half of play after junior guard Elijah Hernandez opened the game up with a three to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead, while a layup from sophomore guard CJ Mundell with 4:54 remaining put Holy Family ahead by two, 25-23.
In between those two leads by the Tigers, Post would take control of the affair by 11 points, 21-10, after going on a 9-0 run led by five points from Lott and a pair of baskets from graduate forward
Derrick Thomas II and senior guard
Tre Duncan. In response, Holy Family embarked on a balanced 11-0 run of their own to tie the game at 21 all, with all five players on the floor recording a basket, led by three points from freshman guard AJ Cortes and graduate guard Di'Andre South-Howell.
Putting together a 36.4% shooting half, going 12-for-33 overall and 5-for-17 (29.4%) from three, the Eagles took a two-point lead into the break, 31-29, after Thomas II and graduate guard
Cape Holden both hit threes in the final three minutes to help Post emerge from their brief two-point deficit.
Although the Eagles would never trail in the second half, there would be some tense moments as the halfway point of the half approached, and Post held on to an eight-point lead. Using four different scorers again, an 8-0 run lasting four minutes pulled the Tigers even at 48 all with 6 1/2 minutes left in regulation, before graduate forward
Brody Limric game alive with his efforts down the stretch to lead Post on a game-ending run.
Scoring 15 points over the next four minutes as a team, Limric accounted for eight of those via back-to-back threes and a layup that forced a Holy Family timeout with the Eagles ahead by 13 points, 61-48. The lead rose to as many as 19 points with 43 seconds left before Cores' layup and a three at the buzzer from freshman guard Amir Nelson brought the margin down to 14 points, 71-57, when all was set and done.
Thomas II led the Eagles again in scoring, this time with 16 points on 5-for-12 shooting, while Lott was right behind him with 14 points, and junior guard
Ta'Quan Williams with 13 points on 6-for-10 shooting. In just nine minutes of playing time, Limric scored all eight of his points on 3-for-4 shooting with four rebounds off the bench for a Post team that shot 43.3% overall, including 14-for-27 (51.8%) in the second half.
