Women's Basketball Returns After 28-Day Layoff, Falls to Southern Connecticut in New Year's Eve Matchup

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After a 28-day layoff that featured two game cancellations due to injuries, a well-rested, much healthier Post University Women's Basketball squad took the floor against Southern Connecticut State University on New Year's Eve in their final road matchup of 2025. Featuring nine players, the most they have had available in a game so far this year, Post would struggle to find their rhythm from the jump, allowing the Owls to pull away early before finding their groove as the game wore on in an 86-55 loss for the Eagles to close out the calendar year.

THE BASICS

Post University 55, Southern Connecticut State University 86

Post University (1-5)

Southern Connecticut State University (6-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior forward Claire Greene provided a little bit of everything for the Post offense with 11 points on 4-for-10 shooting with eight rebounds and five assists, both of which led the team in their respective categories. Sophomore forward Tiara Tyson, who continued to rack up double-digit games since beginning her Eagle career, led the team with 13 points on 4-for-10 shooting with four blocks and four assists.

The Owls would lead wire-to-wire, outscoring Post by an 18-7 margin through the first quarter as the Eagles shot just 14% from the field with a 2-for-14 mark, compared to 6-for-17 (35.2%) for the home team in the same stretch. The offense for Post finished game shooting 17-for-53 overall, a 32.1% finish to the affair, but bounced back with 16-point performances in each of the next three quarters, including shooting above 40% in the second and fourth quarters.

Five players finished in double figures for Southern Connecticut led by graduate guard Jillian Martin who had 21 points on 8-for-11 shooting in 35 minutes of action, followed by the season debut of senior guard Ally Sentance with 15 points on 5-for-6 shooting. As a team, the Owls shot 47% overall, including 54.5% from three-point land with 12 successful makes, and a 12-for-18 (66.7%) performance from the charity stripe. Despite 27 trips to the free throw line for Post, they would convert on just 15 of their attempts, leading to a 55.6% finish, slightly below their season avearage of 63.4%.

Of all the players that touched the floor in the affair for either side, four of them finished playing 30-plus minutes in Greene with 36 minutes, sophomore guard Jasmine Day-Cox with 35 minutes, and sophomore guard Kamyrn Porter with 31 minutes all for the Eagles, while Martin was the lone Owl to reach the 30-minute plateau.

BY THE NUMBERS
