Swain Scores in Return, Men's Ice Hockey Swept by Arcadia in Weekend Series

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Playing for the first time in two weeks, sophomore forward Scotty Swain netted his first goal of the season, but like yesterday, Post University Men's Ice Hockey would be unable to maintain its momentum on the road against Arcadia University, falling 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to end the two-game road trip.

THE BASICS

Post University 1, Arcadia University 2

Post University (2-5-1)

Arcadia University (4-4-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman goalie John Simon would make his first collegiate start in net for Post, looking stellar as he made 25 saves in 40 minutes of action, allowing two goals in that second period, which ended up being the difference maker in the affair. However, for the second straight day, it would be the Eagles striking first as Swain made his return to the ice in style, getting set up by senior forward Baxter Kimball and sophomore defenseman Aidan Canady for his first goal of the season, a power-play goal, that gave Post the lead for the second consecutive game against Arcadia.

That lead would last less than a minute as senior defenseman Connor Williams answered back with a score of his own, tying things up at one all. However, that tie would last only a little over two minutes as the second of five power plays in the frame for the Knights led to the eventual game-winning goal by junior forward Bryce Battaglia. Entering the day, Post's penalty kill unit was 19-for-20 and still put up an impressive 5-for-6 afternoon, but the one by Battaglia ended up making the difference.

As for Post's offense, they were held in check by freshman goalie Ryan Crowshaw for a second straight day after he made his debut against the Eagles yesterday in the 4-1 win for Arcadia. Crowshaw made 37 saves, including 16 in a third period that saw Post hold a 16-3 advantage in shots on goal. Despite the one goal on the power play, the Eagles still finished 1-for-5 with only five shots against Crowshaw when playing with a man-up advantage, having a couple of those wiped out due to penalties of their own.

In his debut, Simon made 28 saves on 30 total attempts, playing a little over 58 minutes, being handed his first collegiate loss, while Post lost their second consecutive game.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Aidan Canady finished the weekend with two points, scoring once on Saturday and tacking on an assist on Sunday -- Canady now has two goals and two assists on the season
  • The Post University penalty kill allowed only its second goal of the season while going 5-for-6 against Arcadia University on Sunday afternoon
  • Picking up where he left off yesterday in net, Ryan Crowshaw was near-perfect again for Arcadia University, making 37 saves on 38 attempts to finish his collegiate debut weekend with 71 saves and a pair of wins
  • This weekend was the first time in which Post University and Arcadia University faced each other in program history, as the Knights now hold a 2-0-0 record against the Eagles

WHO'S NEXT
Post University returns to conference play this Tuesday at home against Franklin Pierce University with a 7:30 PM puck drop from the Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, Connecticut. The Eagles were shut out on the road against the Ravens earlier this season, 3-0.
