Women's Ice Hockey Shut Out by Stonehill College in Saturday Road Matchup

NORTH EASTON, Mass. – Sophomore goalie Alexsa Caron held the offense of Post University Women's Ice Hockey in check on Saturday afternoon, making 34 saves to earn her first shutout of the 2025-26 season as Stonehill College forced the weekend split with the Eagles with a 3-0 victory.

THE BASICS

Post University 0, Stonehill College 3

Post University (5-11-1, 5-5-1 NEWHA)

Stonehill College (6-7-1, 6-5-1 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED
In all but the second period, the Post offense would get out shot by Stonehill, as a quiet first period saw the Skyhawks hold a slim 7-5 margin in shots on goal, but junior forward Makenna Socum would break through on the power play about halfway through the frame against senior goalie Hannah Saunders for the only goal the home team would end up needing. Slocum's man-up goal also snapped a 9-for-9 stretch from the Post penalty kill over the last two-game stretch, both of which were wins.

Despite a gaudy 17-6 shots on goal advantage in the second period for the Eagles, Caron would stand tall in net through three Post power plays, all of which came in the span of 11 minutes in the frame. Through those three power plays, the Eagles generated six shots against Caron, but also allowed Stonehill to rattle off three of their own as the score held steady at 1-0 in favor of the Skyhawks.

Breaking things open in the third, senior forward Maddi Achtyl scored with the help of freshman forward Gracie Sacca, for the first of her two third-period assists, which extended the Skyhawk lead to two goals with still 15 1/2 minutes to play in regulation. Sacca would help secure the win for Stonehill on another power-play goal, this time assisting senior forward Bailey Feeney with under three to go. Saunders, who made 28 saves overall, needed to make 16 in the third period alone, while Caron made 12 more en route to her 34-save shutout win.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Alexsa Caron earned her first shutout of the season and the fifth of her collegiate career after making 34 saves against Post University on Saturday
  • Gracie Sacca led all players with the only multi-point game, recording assists on two of the three goals for Stonehill College
  • After going 8-for-8 over the last two games on the penalty kill, Post University's penalty kill allowed two goals on four attempts by Stonehill College
  • This is the eighth time this season in which Post University has been shut out, but only the fourth time in conference play through 11 games
WHO'S NEXT
Post University takes on Sacred Heart University in the morning on December 2nd, as puck drop will come at 11:00 AM on the road for the Eagles. Post defeated the Pioneers at home earlier in the week, 3-2, in their first matchup of the season.
