Women's Basketball Falters on the Road to Saint Anselm College, 78-46

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior forward Alyssa Rossignol led Post University Women's Basketball with 15 points on 5-of-13 shooting with seven rebounds, but a 15-point second half by the Eagles as a team would sink them against Saint Anselm College to close the Saint Anselm Challenge with a 78-46 defeat on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

Post University 46, Saint Anselm College 78

Post University (0-2)

Saint Anselm College (2-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Similar to Friday afternoon, the Eagles would lead early and then never again as Rossignol started the game with five consecutive points, giving Post a pair of two-point leads, before the ensuing 7-0 run by senior guard Tatum Forbes and the Saint Anselm offense gave them the lead for good, going ahead 10-5. Rossignol was the only double-digit point scorer for Post as junior forward Emma Carman closed with nine points off the bench in 17 minutes on 4-of-7 shooting as the second-highest point scorer of the afternoon.

As a team, Post closed at 32.7% shooting, going 17-for-52 from the floor and 4-for-13 (30.8%) from three-point land, while for the second consecutive game, they finished at 50% shooting from the free throw line, making 8-of-16. Forbes, who had five points during that first-quarter 7-0 run for Saint Anselm, led the Hawks with 20 points on 9-for-15 shooting with seven rebounds, not to be outdone by junior forward Kaitlin McDonough's double-double in which she had 14 points and 10 rebounds. McDonough and Forbes were two of three players from Saint Anselm to close in double figures along with junior guard Elise MacNair's 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting.

Saint Anselm's largest lead of the contest came at its conclusion, in which they held a 32-point edge following a 12-0 run over the final five minutes of action in the 78-46 victory. The Hawk defense finished holding Post to only 15 points on offense in the second half and 6-of-26 shooting (23%), including 0-for-6 from three. As a team, the Hawks were 33-for-72 (45.8%) from the floor, draining a third of their threes in the contest, making up for their 33% performance from the charity stripe.
