Tiara Tyson Scores Season-High 17 Points, Women's Basketball Falls in Conference Opener

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –  Sophomore forward Tiara Tyson had a season-high 17 points for Post University Women's Basketball, but a 49-point second half from Chestnut Hill College would undo the slim one-point lead the Eagles had at half, sending them to an 0-3 start overall and to their first conference loss of the season, 78-57, on Tuesday afternoon heading into Thanksgiving Break.

THE BASICS

Post University 57, Chestnut Hill College 78

Post University (0-3, 0-1 CACC)

Chestnut Hill College (2-3, 1-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Leading the way to a 30-29 halftime lead, sophomore guard Jasmine Day-Cox, who played all 20 minutes, scored 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting, tying for the team lead in rebounds alongside senior forward Claire Greene with six. Post's seven-man rotation yielded points from every player as part of a 9-for-26 shooting half (34.6%), in which they went to the charity stripe 18 times, connecting on 11 of them.

The Eagles would lead for almost the entirety of the first half, jumping out to a quick six-point lead, 8-2, behind baskets from four of their five starters in the first 2:05 of the game. After junior forward Alyssa Rossignol's layup spurred a 5-0 run that was finished with a Day-Cox three, Post took their largest lead of the half by nine points, 19-10, before the Griffins began to work their way back into it.

11 different players saw playing time in the opening 20 minutes for Chestnut Hill, led by six points each by senior guard Sara Tamoun and sophomore guard Anahita Jackson, who combined to shoot 3-for-11 (27.2%) from the field. Five times the Griffins would take the lead in the second quarter, but never by more than a point after closing their four-point deficit, 19-15, at the end of the first quarter.

In all, seven players recorded baskets for the Griffins, leading to an 11-for-32 (34.3%) shooting half with four three-pointers made, but only going to the line nine times and hitting three of them. The Chestnut Hill defense combined for 16 first-half fouls, while Post registered only nine, with three of those being handed to sophomore guard Kamryn Porter, limiting her to 10 minutes of playing time in which she had three points and a rebound.

But Tamoun would explode in the second half to lead Chestnut Hill to victory with their big 49-point second half, scoring 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting, including 3-for-4 from long range, in the third quarter alone to flip a one-point deficit into a nine-point lead, 52-43. Post's offense remained relatively steady in the second half in terms of scoring, putting up 27 points after a 30-point first half, but only had seven shots from the field in the third, while hitting 7-of-10 free throws.

When all was set and done, Tamoun finished with a team-high 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting, falling a rebound short of a double-double in addition to making 5-of-9 threes. Chestnut Hill shot a blistering 46.5% in the second half, connecting on 7-of-13 (53.8%) of their threes, and only hitting the free throw line for two shots. Tamoun was one of three Griffins in double digits at the end of the 78-57 win as sophomore guard Anaisah Malone had 11 points and senior guard Kaya Mobley finished with 10 points.

After scoring 10 points in the first half, Day-Cox was limited to four second-half points, playing all 40 minutes, while Tyson emerged with 11 second-half points to take over the team lead in scoring with her 17 on 5-of-9 shooting with 7-of-10 shots made from the free throw line. Porter also finished in double figures with 10 points in 20 minutes.
