Peric Attacks at Career-High .393 Percentage with 28 Kills, Women's Volleyball Wins Regular-Season Finale in Four Sets

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Graduate outside hitter Kristina Peric finished with 20-plus kills for the 15th time this season, leading the way for Post University Women's Volleyball with 28 kills and a .393 attack percentage, leading the Eagles to a four-set win, 3-1, against Dominican (N.Y.) to close out their regular season. With the victory, Post secured the number one overall seed in the CACC Tournament next week and will take on South Division four seed Jefferson University on Tuesday night in the Drubner Center at 6:00 PM.

THE BASICS

Post University 3, Dominican (N.Y.) 1

Post University (24-4, 13-1 CACC)

Dominican (N.Y.) (8-15, 5-9 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the Eagles, it was their sixth consecutive victory against Dominican (N.Y), dating back to the 2023 season, as they had a season-high .306 attack percentage and 61 kills, as all three of the sets that Post won saw them finish with 16-plus kills and an attack percentage above. 300 as well. In addition to the 28 kills for Peric, she was set up by graduate setter Alice DiFrancesco, who had 47 assists, coming only two shy of her season-high 49 assists back on November 1st against Wilmington University on the road. DiFrancesco also added six kills on 10 attempts for a .500 attack percentage, as she was one of four players to attack above a .200 mark.

Freshman outside hitter Elyana Ortiz also emerged with her first double-digit performance in her last six matches played, finishing with 10 kills on 27 attempts with only four errors for a .296 attack percentage, her second-highest of the season. Ortiz had a .321 attack percentage back on September 6th against Adelphi University on the road in that five-set win and is now up to 203 kills in her rookie season with a .172 attack percentage overall. Sophomore middle blocker Alani Duncan was the final Eagle above a .200 hitting percentage, finishing at a .333 clip with six kills.

Senior libero Alyssa Groves will look to make CACC history on Tuesday night as her 25 digs this afternoon brought her within nine digs of breaking the record set by Chestnut Hill College's Regina Trobosh from 2013-16. Groves now has 664 digs on the year and is already the program and conference's all-time leader in single-season digs, as she recorded 823 digs during her junior season.

There would not be much back-and-forth between the two teams throughout the match as they combined for four ties and three lead changes. After Post took set one, 25-15, and dropped set two, 25-22, there would only be one tie the rest of the match. That would come in the fourth set after the Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead in set three en route to a 25-14 win, when Dominican (N.Y.) went on a 4-0 run while trailing by four, 17-13, tying up the set, before Peric's kill and two service aces, as part of her five in the match, gave Post the lead back for good in the 25-21 set win for the regular-season ending victory in four, 3-1.

Senior outside hitter Elizabeth Perez was the only Lady Charger in double figures, recording 11 on 40 attempts with five errors for a .150 attack percentage. Junior setter Layla Shipley was right behind her with nine kills, but only a .130 attack percentage for a Dominican (N.Y.) team that finished at a .180 clip for the match. Junior setter Kaeden Sanstead closed with 31 assists, while sophomore libero Delaney Ott led her team with 20 digs, as the Lady Chargers finished with an 8-15 record overall with five wins in conference play, entering the CACC Tournament as the North Division's fourth seed.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Sitting at 2,525 career digs after tonight's match, Alyssa Groves is only nine digs away from surpassing Chestnut Hill College's Regina Trabosh for the most digs in CACC history, with 2,533 career digs from 2013-16
  • For the 15th time this season, Kristina Peric topped 20 kills, closing with 28 kills and a career-high .393 attack percentage in the victory
  • As a team, Post University had a season-high 61 kills to go along with a season-best .306 attack percentage in the four-set victory
  • Post University has now won six consecutive matches against Dominican (N.Y.), dating back to October 19th, 2023

WHO'S NEXT
