HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior
Ana Vasilis and senior
Gioia Turco remained out for today's match and are not expected to play tomorrow either, giving Jefferson the upper hand with the #3 Doubles and both the #5 and #6 Singles under their belt, resulting in a 2-0 lead with only one Doubles needed to capture that point as well. The Rams would do so quickly in the #1 Doubles with a 6-0 sweep of sophomores
Julie Merlin and
Laura Kotala with freshmen Madina Omarova and Marely Alvarado, and tack on a #2 Doubles win as well, 6-3, with senior Emily Frost and freshman Sophia Babar beating freshmen
Savannah Croft and
Vitalina Sokoliuk.
Freshman Anouk Oderkerk would get the green light in the #1 Singles for Jefferson, as would freshman Marta Vazquez for the #2 Singles, both of which would win over their respective opponents. For Oderkerk, it was a 6-0 and 6-1 win over Merlin, while Vazquez fought off Sokoliuk in set one, 6-3, before sweeping her 6-0 in set two.
A first-set sweep in the #4 Singles for Frost led to a two-set win for her over Croft, 6-0 and 6-2, while Baber took care of business in the #3 Singles against Kotala, 6-3 and 6-1, giving Jefferson their 7-0 sweep.
